Laperriere “un homme de fer” after Sunday event in Quebec

You might have called Ian Laperriere a warrior, or tough as nails during an 18-year NHL career which concluded three years ago in Philadelphia. After Sunday, add “iron man” to those honorifics. The 39-year-old Laperriere completed the Ironman Mont-Tremblant in his native Quebec, ranking 124th among his division, men aged 35-to-39. He finished the swim portion of the race, a 3.8-kilometer course in a neat 1 hour, 13 minutes, then took on the 180-km bike section in 5 hours, 42 minutes and 56 seconds, before finishing the final 42.2-km on foot in 5:05:21. Ian Laperrière: An IRONMAN is an ultra triathalon that consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and concludes with a full marathon (26.2 miles). KP: What inspired you to get involved? IL: In my career, I crossed paths with triatheletes, and I …

Both Ratchuk and Bodrov never played a game in the NHL, but Nodl turned out to be a serviceable player for Philly for a few seasons. Picked before a lengthy list of productive players later in the second round, such as Milan Lucic and Keith Seabrook, Nodl is struggling to make it in the NHL as a 26-year-old winger. After finishing his second season at St. Cloud State University in 2007-2008, Nodl joined the Philadelphia Phantoms for a trio of …

It’s buyout day (and errybody celebratin’)

Today is the day that we bid farewell to two of the highest paid Flyers, Ilya Bryzgalov and Danny Briere, as the team will exercise their two compliance buyouts on them. This leaves a gaping hole in net (one could argue there’s been a gaping hole there for 15 or so years, though) and one fewer center on a team that arguably has too many centers. But do they? Claude Giroux can play wing and The team has toyed with the idea of moving Brayden Schenn there too. Beyond Scott Laughton and maybe Nick Cousins, there is little in the …
