Voracek escapes injury in car accident

Philadelphia Flyers Forward Jakub Voracek was involved in a car accident earlier today. Voracek crashed his Ferrari into a truck near his home town in Kladno, Czech Republic. The 23 year-old Flyers winger was luckily uninjured in the accident. Paul Holmgren spoke with Jake earlier in the day and released a statement about it. “He was involved in a car accident in the Czech Republic. Although his car did suffer damage, there were no injuries. Jake is fine,” said Holmgren. The news was first reported by a Czech news outlet (sport.cz) According to the site, Voracek tried to avoid hitting the truck …

For the first time in just under a year, the Philadelphia Flyers have reached a three-game win streak thanks to a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night. Erik Gustafsson had the game-winner late in regulation, while Jake Voracek’s empty netter in the final minute of play sealed the deal. Alexei Emelin, Brandon Prust, and David Desharnais scored for the Canadiens, while Sean Couturier, Simon Gagne, Wayne Simmonds, Gustafsson, and Voracek handled the scoring for Philadelphia. In recent days, I have had some very insightful hockey conversations with people and have read many others online as well. I would like to share some of those thoughts and include a few of my own here. Paul Holmgren has been a successful general manager in many ways but his biggest failure has been assembling solid clubs at the AHL and ECHL levels. In order to develop good prospects, the Flyers need good affiliate teams. Good prospects are less likely to reach their potential without a solid supporting cast. Planning for next season. It’s the phrase you have heard in recent days and will continue to hear after each excruciating loss and lackluster performance. It is a way of saying that season is beyond repair and that the organization will make no knee-jerk moves or hasty decisions. Take, for instance, Peter Laviolette. Despite a quick start and numerous chances offered by Toronto goalie Ben Scrivens, the Philadelphia Flyers were unable to pull out a win in Monday night’s matchup with the Maple Leafs, falling by a 4-2 count. Monday’s was the second of three games between the two teams this season. The Leafs took the first one back on February 11 with a final score of 5-2.
