Podcast Episode 51: Yo, The Podcast (with @FlyGoalScoredBy)

On this edition of the Flyers Faithful podcast, Steve and Hal welcome back Fran from the ever great Flyers Goal Scored By and talk all things Flyers, hockey, and, well, pretty much everything about everything. They spoke for so long that Fran’s phone died. The guys also discuss the Flyers’ matchups against the Rangers, Capitals, and Hurricanes, John Erskine’s suspension for his hit on Wayne Simmonds, the mere possibility of Jerome Iginla in orange and black, and whether we’ve all been overreacting just a teensy bit. Finally, a big stick tap to everyone involved in assisting the family of the late Mark Marinelli (especially Phillies Nation …

Crashing the Crease: BryzNasty

Two weeks ago, I laid out my expectations for Ilya Bryzgalov’s season. In short, I expected him to start well thanks to his keeping the engine warmed up over in Russia, but my fear was the Flyers’ lacking defensive corps would take its toll on him and lead a to a mid-season slump. I felt that a .920-or-higher save percentage wasn’t too likely by season’s end. Early on, he’s fighting to prove me wrong, posting a pretty stellar .924 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.19, especially given the support he’s had thus far. Right now, it isn’t that …

Atlantic Watch: 1/23-1/29

The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with a pair of wins, but a pair of lackadaisical efforts led to two losses where they were outscored 7-2. The Orange and Black find themselves at the bottom of the division with a trio of meetings against Southeast Division opponents over the next seven days. With a record of 0-3-0 and playing a team they went 0-6-0 against in 2011-2012, the Flyers’ 2-1 win over the visiting New York Rangers wasn’t expected on Thursday night. After a scoreless opening stanza, the tandem of Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek registered their first goals of …

Hockey Hilarity: NHL-Network’s Giving Out Free Goals!

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! The Philadelphia Flyers finally won a game! Not only that, they beat the New York Rangers and did it by simply outworking a team they couldn’t outwork at any point last year. The Flyers put together a complete 60 minute effort, weird, I know. Anyway, Wayne Simmonds registered his first goal of the season, and he’s looked really good thus far. So good in fact, that the people over at …

Facing an uphill battle up front

It’s hard to imagine a worse start to the season for the Flyers. With the schedule being so cramped, the Flyers found themselves on the menu for two home openers after starting the season with a tough loss to their in-state rivals Pittsburgh. Unfortunately for them, the damage has been caused by a host of issues throughout the line-up, and it seems to have festered with each passing game, adversely affecting the level of play in greater volumes as the madness unfolded. Now the Flyers are 0-3 and facing nothing but questions and the occasional Seth Jones quip. So where …
