Future Flyers Watch: The OHL playoff picture

With all 20 of the teams in the OHL having played 64 or more of their 68 regular season games, the playoff picture is practically set. Of all the Philadelphia Flyers’ prospects currently in the OHL, each player is either already on a team that has clinched a spot for the postseason or they are on a team that is fighting for the final spot available. In the Eastern Conference, Scott Laughton and Colin Suellentrop have helped the Oshawa Generals clinch a playoff spot. The Gens sit third in the conference and sit four points behind the Belleville Bulls, who …

It was like someone turned on a light switch late in the third period, as the Adirondack Phantoms scored 3 goals in the last 5:52 of the game to defeat the Connecticut Whale by a score of 4-3 in front of the 4,205 in attendance at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Future Flyers Report: Stolarz and Alderson Sign, Wahl Added

The Philadelphia Flyers signed a pair of Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to entry-level contracts this week. One of those was expected, as goaltending prospect Anthony Stolarz inked a deal. The other signing wasn’t, as forward Brandon Alderson also joined the organization. Stolarz continues to impress in the OHL with the London Knights. With three wins this week, Stolarz extended his winning streak to seven straight starts and improved his record to 11-2-1 with the Knights. During this personal winning streak, Stolarz has produced three games where he has allowed one goal against or less and two games where he allowed …

Future Flyers Report: Kessel’s Offensive Weekend

Blake Kessel is regarded as one of the better defenseman on the Trenton Titans. At 6’2″, 203 pounds, Kessel does a great job in his own end of the rink and can pitch in offensively as well. In his final two years at the University of New Hampshire and his time with the Adirondack Phantoms last season, Kessel posted a total of 16 goals and 67 assists in 133 games. This weekend, Kessel had a three-assist game on Saturday and a two-point game yesterday. Thanks to Stephen Schultz’s four-goal game on Saturday, Kessel showed his ability to start a scoring …

The top 25 Flyers prospects under 25

Broad Street Hockey asked me to contribute a list of my top 25 Flyers prospects under the age of 25 back in August. They ran a series of posts on the topic that also featured Anthony SanFilippo, Dustin Leed, Frank Seravalli, Bill Meltzer, and the BSH crew. It was an honor to be asked and to be included in such a high profile group. Not being above facing possible ridicule — Oh, hey there, Niko Hovinen — I opted to publish the list here for public consumption. Have at it, everyone. Future Flyers Report: Zolnierczyk and Gustafsson in the NHL

During the 2011-2012 campaign, the tandem of Harry Zolnierczyk and Erik Gustafsson saw their fair share of action with the Philadelphia Flyers. The pair, who are both in the top six for points with the Adirondack Phantoms this season, each played a game for the Orange and Black over the last several days, as the two participated in at least 30 contests last season. Zolnierczyk suited up for the Flyers in their 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre on Tuesday. Harry Z had two shots on net, two hits, and two blocked shots in 9:50 TOI, as …

Future Flyers Report: Laughton’s Return to Oshawa

Scott Laughton participated in 32 games for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL before he joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ roster for the start of the 2013 season. The gritty forward suited up for five games with Philly before the Orange and Black sent him down. Although he didn’t produce a single point, PIM, and left with an even plus/minus rating, Laughton had 10 shots on net and 10 hits. Laughton’s last game with the Generals before he left for the Flyers was a 4-3 shootout win over Derek Mathers’ Peterborough Petes on January 11th. The pair of Flyers’ prospects had …

Future Flyers Report: Stolarz Unbeaten with Knights, Cousins Leads OHL in Scoring

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz had a record of 2-5-0 and a save percentage under .900 with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks before he joined the London Knights of the OHL in early January. Since his move, Stolarz has appeared in six games for the Knights and has yet to lose. The 45th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft is 4-0-0 in the OHL with a goals against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .937. After he allowed five goals in his first win a few days after he joined the Knights, a 10-5 win for London over the Ottawa 67′s on January 11th, …
