Point/Counterpoint: Trade deadline moves

Point: Tweak the roster By Steve J The Flyers miss the hell out of Chris Pronger.  You know it, I know it, Trent Klatt knows it.  The trade rumors that have circulated for the past couple of months have revolved around the defense.  Ryan Suter, Shea Weber, Tim Gleason, and Luke Schenn’s names have been floated as potential candidates.  The cost for most of these guys would be at least one young forward, which happens to be the Flyers’ greatest asset.  Well, in the words of the immortal sage Admiral Ackbar, it’s a trap! It is absolutely not worth it …

1. Laud Bob, learn from Bob When Dmitry Chesnokov interviewed Sergei Bobrovsky for Puck Daddy this offseason, he asked him about Ilya Bryzgalov’s contract. “What I understood from last season is that if you play well, show the result, then you play for the first team,” said Bobrovsky. “If not, you are benched. A contract is not playing, a person is.” Bobrovsky put his head down, kept quiet, and played hard. The presence of Bryzgalov did not intimidate him. That alone speaks volumes about just how much the young goalie matured from the previous postseason. While Bob may not get …

Flyers Faithful asked Bill Meltzer from HockeyBuzz, NHL.com, and PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, Joshua Janet from GCobb, Michael DeNicola from Orange and Black Pack, and our very own Bob H five questions about the second half of the season. Nikolay Zherdev was a riddle wrapped in an enigma and battered in an average 1.29 goals per 60 minutes. The team was plagued with alleged locker room issues, tales of hard-partying stars, and the lack of a clear-cut starting goalie (despite the fact that both Sergei …

Reevaluating (New Year and such)

I sit here with my cup of coffee (diluted with peppermint mocha creamer cause that’s how I roll) and look at my calendar that shows December with an old-fashioned painting of a hockey scene (gift from my dad last Christmas). Next to me is the 2012 calendar, this time with photos of the Flyers. It’s weird enough that Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, and Darroll Powe are all taking space in said calendar, but as I still like all three of them and miss them to some extent, I don’t mind. It’s almost a new year. 2012 supposedly will bring the …
