Flyers hang on for 2-1 win in Berube’s debut

In his coaching debut, Craig Berube helped the Philadelphia Flyers squeak out a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers for the team’s first victory of the 2013-2014 campaign. Brayden Schenn and Braydon Coburn produced goals in the first period that proved to be enough, while Steve Mason was impressive in the win with a 33-save performance. Atlantic Watch: 3/21-3/27

In their three home games this week, the Flyers were able to clinch a playoff spot with a pair of wins over teams currently sitting outside the postseason scenario. Unfortunately, Ilya Bryzgalov suffered a chip fracture in his right foot. Hopefully for Philly, Bryzgalov will be back by the end of next week when the club takes on the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers as part of their four-game schedule over the next few days. For the first time since the middle of November, the Flyers went a week where they only earned two points as they went 1-2-0 in three road games. Although the Flyers had the help of Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn returning to the line-up, they managed to end the week with a pair of losses as they fell out of the top position in the division.
