Flyers-AW-2-21-199x300

Atlantic Watch: 2/15-2/21

The Flyers won two of their three games this week, as the club is still trying to turn things around before the playoffs. Although they are 4-5-2 since the All-Star break, Philly won two of their last three games. Fortunately for the Flyers, their next three games are away from the Wells Fargo Center, a scenario they are 19-9-2 in this season. In their first contest, the Flyers pounded the visiting Buffalo Sabres by a score of 7-2. After Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek tallied in the first for Buffalo, the Flyers rattled off seven straight goals. The performance of …

Giroux Nets Winner In Overtime As Flyers Complete Huge Comeback

Trailing 3-0 midway through the second period, the Flyers stormed back to beat the Ducks 4-3 in overtime out in Anaheim tonight. Claude Giroux scored the game-winner and had an assist in the second period, while Jaromir Jagr had two goals and an assist in his return to the lineup after missing more than a week. Kimmo Timonen assisted on three scores and Danny Briere added two helpers as the Flyers enjoyed their first road win against a Western Conference team on the season. Andrew Cogliano and Teemu Selanne picked up early goals for the Ducks. Jonas Hiller held down …

Flight Plan Week of 11.27.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers won two of their four games this week. They were able to record comeback victories over the New York Islanders and the Montreal Canadiens, but they lost and were thoroughly outplayed by both the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers. It seems as if ever since Brayden Schenn broke his foot by blocking a shot, the rest of the team has been dropping like flies, missing a few games or weeks here or there. Chris Pronger has missed the last four games with a virus, Jaromir Jagr was out with a lower-body injury before returning too soon …

RICE & MICE: Yo! It’s Movember!

Ah, Movember, how I missed you! As promised, I am featuring this amazing mustache movement that raises money and awareness for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and other cancers that affect men. Goalies Jonas Hiller and Tim Thomas are not only sporting their own ‘staches for the month, but also Movember Masks which I believe will be auctioned off at the end of the month. Hiller’s mask is awesome, by the way, and I love that it includes all of his teammates in the design. Movember has had the support of NHL players for the past …

Atlantic Watch: 10/6-10/11

Philly started off the season with a 2-1 win against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins in Beantown, then recorded a dominant 3-0 shutout in New Jersey to end a 101-game drought during the regular season and playoffs combined. After giving up the first goal of the NHL season to Brad Marchand, the Flyers scored two goals in the final minute of the first period. Claude Giroux dangled his way to a goal with 50 seconds left, while Jakub Voracek scored with only three seconds to go on a turn around shot in the slot. Fortunately for Philly, this would be all they needed as Ilya …

Flight Plan week of 12.26.2010

‘Tis the season for road trips as the Flyers head out west on their annual post-Christmas visit to the other conference and try to regain the top spot in the NHL after losing it to Pittsburgh as they remained idle during the Penguins’ last two games. The Penguins hold just a one point lead over the Flyers and the Fly guys have two games in hand as they’ve played 35 to Pittsburgh’s 37.  The Flyers obviously would love to forget what happened a week ago at home, but alas, they would do well not to as they got smoked in …

Flight Plan: Week of 10.17.2010

Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. The Philadelphia Flyers will face two teams this week going in opposite directions: the Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs.  Both teams are gritty and fast, but are supposed to be rebuilding. The Ducks had a tough opening week whereas the Maple Leafs are the only team in the Eastern Conference that remains undefeated through their first few games of the season. The Flyers look to finish up their longest home stand of the …
