In their four-game schedule this week, the Flyers posted a record of 2-1-1 and picked up what might be there most intense victory of the 2011-2012 regular season with their win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. It’s those same Pens that the Flyers trail by three points for fourth in the conference and the chance for home-ice advantage in the clubs’ first-round playoff series. A dominant win over the New York Islanders and a pair of comebacks helped the Flyers gain five crucial points in the standings this week, as Philly still has a slim chance to win the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the only game in which the Flyers didn’t earn a point may have been their most impressive performance, as they posted 23 more shots than the Panthers in their one-goal game loss last night. For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents. After a road trip where they were shut out twice, the Flyers came home and handled the New York Islanders for a 6-3 win tonight. Matt Read, Claude Giroux, and Andrej Meszaros each recorded three-point performances, while Ilya Bryzgalov made 21 saves for the victory. The end of their four-game road trip wasn’t pretty for the Flyers, as their only two points came in a shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. With a pair of shutout losses, the Flyers have now been shut out five times this season. After a dominant victory on Thursday against one of the hotter teams in the league, the Flyers proceeded to drop their next handful of games to suffer their first three-game losing streak of the season. Evgeni Nabokov denied 45 shots in regulation and overtime before he stopped both of the Flyers’ shootout attempts to give the Islanders a 1-0 shootout win tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Frans Nielsen, who signed a four-year extension worth a reported $11 million with New York earlier on Tuesday, had the decisive goal in the shootout, as John Tavares also scored on his shootout attempt to keep Ilya Bryzgalov’s shootout woes this season intact. Josh Bailey registered his 100th NHL point and recorded his first game-winning goal since December of 2010 with his goal in the second period, as the Islanders beat the Flyers by a 4-1 count on Thursday night.
