The National Hockey League dished out a five-game suspension to Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White on Wednesday afternoon, for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia defenseman Kent Huskins. The incident occurred 6:11 into the first period of Monday’s 7-3 Philadelphia victory, when White reached out and used his elbow to subdue Huskins instead of using bodily contact. Huskins suffered a concussion on the play, and is out indefinitely. White was assessed a match penalty and game misconduct. He will forfeit $18,581.10, which automatically goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, and not be eligible to return until …

After putting themselves in a very big hole, the Philadelphia Flyers ended this week with two emphatic wins to show that they could be a playoff team. It might be too little too late, but the Orange and Black will carry their two-game winning streak into their upcoming seven-day stretch. The Philadelphia Flyers entered this week on a winning streak, but they left it on a losing skid and can now only hope they receive some help to make the postseason. The Philadelphia Flyers took a four game win streak, their first of the season, into Winnipeg yesterday. They scored the first goal and, after a few shaky minutes at the beginning of the first period, completely took over registering 13 shots in the primary stanza, limiting the Jets to just four through 20 minutes of play. The Philadelphia Flyers saw their four-game win streak snapped today in Winnipeg with a 4-1 loss to the Jets. Evander Kane and Bryan Little each had a goal and an assist, while Blake Wheeler registered two assists in a four-goal second period for the Jets. Ruslan Fedotenko was the lone Flyer to beat Ondrej Pavelec, as the goaltender made 30 saves for the win. Ruslan Fedotenko beat Braden Holtby in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 5-4 win in front of the home crowd tonight. After Kimmo Timonen tied the game with just under 10 seconds left in regulation, the blue liner set up Fedotenko for the game-winning tally in the extra frame to grab the Flyers two points in the standings. Despite losing three of their last four games, they gained a point in two of them and are currently just four points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia Flyers grabbed two points today with a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins today at the Wells Fargo Center. The trio of Mike Knuble, Matt Read, and Ruslan Fedotenko found the back of the net today, as the only visitor to beat Ilya Bryzgalov in victory was Nathan Horton. Bryz had 33 saves to Tuukka Rask’s 19, as Rask allowed two goals on 21 shots.
