Atlantic Watch: 12/14-12/20

The last two games for the Flyers haven’t been pretty, but there is good news related to the team’s point-leader. Claude Giroux is expected to make a return in the near future, the earliest being tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars, from his concussion. This is good news considering the status of Chris Pronger, who will not take part in another game at any point this season or for the playoffs. With his team going 2-2-0 in his absence, Giroux’s return will hopefully turn things around for the Orange and Black. As for Philly’s games this week, the Flyers extended their winning …

Atlantic Watch: 11/30-12/6

Taking part in their first two-game week since the opening week of the season, the Flyers enjoyed two road wins against Western Conference opponents on Friday and Saturday. Claude Giroux provided a pair of game-winning goals as Ilya Bryzgalov got back on track this week winning back-to-back road games for the first time since his shutout against the New Jersey Devils on October 8. Looking ahead, the Flyers face Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin in their upcoming four-game week. Trailing 0-3 midway through the game on Friday, the Flyers scored the next four to win 4-3 in overtime against the Anaheim Ducks. Giroux slapped home the …

Minor League Update: 11/20-11/26

As part of a new weekly article, I’ll be taking a look at all the action that happened surronding the Flyers’ AHL affiliate (Adirondack Phantoms) and ECHL affiliate (Trenton Titans). The Phantoms went 2-2-0  in their games this week losing both their road tilts before coming home to win a pair. After losing on Sunday, the Phantoms had off from Monday to Wednesday before playing three consecutive nights on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Saturday. Michael Leighton recorded both of the wins for the Phantoms as the club looks to gain the top spot in the Northeast Division with three games against two East …

Atlantic Watch: 2/2-2/9

With only two games since last Wednesday, the Flyers had the lightest work week of any team in the Atlantic Division. Since both of those games were against Western Conference teams, the schedule didn’t feature any intense divisional games as well. Nonetheless Philly went 2-0-0 on the week notching wins against the Nashville Predators on Thursday and Dallas Stars on Saturday. Ville Leino’s first two-goal game in the NHL led the Flyers to victory Thursday beating the Predators 3-2. Both of Leino’s goals came in the 3rd period, including a spin-o-rama goal from the slot with about three minutes left in regulation as the game …
