Future Flyers Report: 12/10

Jason Akeson played in 201 games for the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL before he signed an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on March 2nd, 2011. Throughout his time with the Rangers, which spanned from the 2007-2008 season to 2010-2011, Akeson produced 254 points. Of those 254 points, he had 68 goals and 186 assists. With 73.23% of his points being assists in his time with Kitchener, it should be no surprise that is goal and assist totals are so lopsided this season. Splitting time between the Trenton Titans and Adirondack Phantoms this year, Akeson has registered 19 points. Only …

Future Flyers Report: 12/3

Nick Cousins is still at the top of the forwards’ list, and for good reason. He leads the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL in points and is 11th in the league with 11 goals and 29 assists in 29 games. Derek Mathers is first on his team and 17th in the OHL with 51 PIMs for the Peterborough Petes. He’s second to Marc-Andre Bourdon for the lead in that category across the prospects on this list, as Bourdon has 59 PIMs. Andrew Rowe is 11th in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference in terms of scoring with nine goals and 10 …

Trenton Update: 11/23-11/29

The Trenton Titans lost two of their three games this week, as their record dropped to 7-9-1 to put them two points ahead of both the Wheeling Nailers and Evansville IceMen, who are in last place in the Eastern Conference. The Titans played both squads below them in the Eastern Conference standings this week and went 1-1-0. Despite being ranked so low in the conference a pair of wins this week can help Trenton gain ground, as they play a team that is sixth in the standings, but only four points ahead of them. The Titans’ lone win of the …

Future Flyers Report: 11/26

Of the 30 skaters mentioned on the list below, 15 have suited up for at least one game with the Adirondack Phantoms and six have suited up for at least one game with the Trenton Titans. Both squads aren’t at the top of the league for scoring. The Phantoms have been held to two goals or less in 10 of their 17 games this season, while the Titans have scored the third-fewest number of goals in the ECHL this year with 39 tallies in 16 contests. In Adirondack, the club has lit the lamp 44 times. The trio of Brayden Schenn, …

Trenton Update: 11/16-11/22

The Trenton Titans split their two games in Elmira against the Jackals last weekend to snap a long losing streak. The six-game losing streak that lasted three weeks, and saw five losses to the Reading Royals, has dropped the Titans to 12th in the Eastern Conference. Trenton looks to win three out of their last four with two home games this weekend against a pair of opponents who aren’t the Royals or Jackals. The Titans ended their losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Jackals last week at First Arena. After failing to score a single goal for the Kalamazoo Wings …

Future Flyers Report: 11/19

Derek Mathers is one of the tougher prospects in the Philadelphia Flyers’ system. With 47 penalty minutes in 24 games, Mathers is currently 14th in the Ontario Hockey League in time spent in the sin bin. He’s engaged in three fights so far this season and he’s won two of them in convincing fashion. In a Peterborough Petes’ 5-1 loss to the Oshawa Generals, Mathers took out his frustration on Scott Sabourin in the Flyers’ prospect’s first fight of the 2012-2013 regular season. After he fought the Owen Sound Attack’s Daniel Zweep in an even bout in Peterborough’s 5-4 shootout loss …

Trenton Update: 11/9-11/15

In a schedule quirk, the Trenton Titans’ last five games have all come against the Reading Royals. The Titans lost every single one of those contests and are currently on a six-game losing streak, as they have gained only one point in the process. Three of Trenton’s losses to the Royals came this past weekend, as the club was minutes away from ending their losing streak. After coming up short in both of the clubs’ meetings last week, the Titans dropped last Friday’s meeting in a 2-1 affair at the Sun National Bank Center. Bryan Haczyk leveled the game at one with his third …

Future Flyers Report: 11/12

The Flyers used two of their seven draft picks in this year’s draft on forwards. The first was center Scott Laughton, who they selected in the first round at 20th overall. The second was Taylor Leier, the only winger selected by Philly in the draft, in the fourth round at 117th overall. Although Laughton plays with the Oshawa Generals in the OHL and Leier plays in the WHL with the Portland Winterhawks, both skaters have participated in the same number of games due to Laughton in the midst of a 10-game suspension. With 14 games apiece, Leier has produced 14 …

Future Flyers Report: 11/5

Despite a cloud of suspicion for his late Summer activities, Nick Cousins leads all Philadelphia Flyers prospects in scoring so far this season. The fact he has played more games than any other forward on the list shouldn’t take away from what he has done to this point. Not only does he lead his team — the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds — in points, which is currently a margin of 10 over right winger Sergey Tolchinsky, Cousins sits seventh overall in the Ontario Hockey League with 27 points over 18 games. The center has registered at least one point in 15 different contests this …

Trenton Update: 10/19-10/25

The Trenton Titans suffered their first loss of the season last weekend, but they’re still ranked near the top of the ECHL standings early in the season. The Titans were able to start off the season 4-0-0 before they recorded their first loss in Cincinnati on Saturday night. Trenton hopes a pair of home games against the Toledo Walleye this weekend will allow them to gain ground in the division, conference, and league. On Friday night, the Titans walked into the Ford Center and left with a 4-3 victory over the Evansville IceMen, an affiliate for both the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets. Luke Pither’s …
