Flyers hang on for 2-1 win in Berube’s debut

In his coaching debut, Craig Berube helped the Philadelphia Flyers squeak out a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers for the team’s first victory of the 2013-2014 campaign. Brayden Schenn and Braydon Coburn produced goals in the first period that proved to be enough, while Steve Mason was impressive in the win with a 33-save performance. For the second time in two days, the Philadelphia Flyers were outworked by the opposition, as the Carolina Hurricanes grabbed a 2-1 victory at home. It was a Radek Dvorak goal in the second period that proved to be a game-winner, as Jay Harrison also scored for the hosts. Bernier steals game for Leafs, Flyers can’t capitalize early in 3-1 loss

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their season opener tonight at the Wells Fargo Center, as the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs came in and stole a 3-1 victory. Jonathan Bernier bailed out the Maple Leafs several times during Toronto’s win, as he kept his team in it for the first two periods before Dave Bolland potted the game-winning goal early in the third period and put home the insurance tally with 22.5 seconds left for a two-goal game.
