Flyers grab win at their second home, beat Pens 2-1 in Pittsburgh

The Philadelphia Flyers earned their third straight win tonight, as they earned a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the CONSOL Energy Center. Brayden Schenn had both of the Orange and Black’s tallies this evening, while Ray Emery came through for Philly with a strong 30-save performance. Naturally, Sidney Crosby was the lone player to beat Emery, as it looks as though Philadelphia might be turning this season in a positive direction. When Craig Berube was promoted to Flyers’ head coach, he talked about the team playing a strong defensive game and being better without the puck. The Orange …

Flight Plan: What Do We Do When We Fall Off The Horse…

The Philadelphia Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette after a loss last Sunday to the Carolina Hurricanes. They promoted Craig Berube to head coach. Since then, they are 1-2-0, as they beat the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, but lost to the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings, and have scored just five goals in that span. Berube wants to institute a more defensively conscious system, with emphasis on positional play, puck support, all while playing an uptempo, skating heavy game. So far under Berube, the team has had a bit more jump than they showed in the first three games …

Metropolitan Division Preview: Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the Philadelphia Flyers’ biggest rival and a perennial NHL powerhouse. We both hate and (kind of) respect them. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are both top-five forwards in the league. The team also boasts the likes of James Neal, Kris Letang, and the list goes on. And yet, this powerhouse hasn’t made the Stanley Cup Finals since they won it all back in 2009. Year after year, experts and pundits pick them to win the whole thing and the Pens find a way to eff it all up. Last year, they were derailed by the Boston …
