Flight Plan Week of 12.12.2010

As of writing this preview the Philadelphia Flyers have gotten five of the six points available through three of the four games thus far this week and will try for seven of eight against the Boston Bruins today. Unfortunately, the Flyers should have gotten all six of the points available however they coughed up a third period lead for the second time in two weeks and this was a little bit more distressing. The Flyers had a two-goal lead going into the final stanza and they even extended it to a three-goal lead when they promptly fell apart and allowed the San …

RICE & MICE: The pain of high ankle sprains

RICE & MICE will periodically review injuries that are common, uncommon or just plain unique in hockey. I hope to provide some insight to the “how’s, why’s, and when’s” of the injuries that might keep players out of the lineup.  Let’s talk ankle sprains. Sprains commonly refer to stretching or tearing of ligaments. In a general sense, ligaments connect bone to bone and offer stability to joints. The morning after: Flyers @ Penguins 10.29.10

“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. Wow!  Excitement at the beginning and the end of this game (lacking somewhat in the middle).  Viewed as a whole, it was a good game to start the “dad weekend”.  (Aside: Who wants to party with the Carcillos?  Here we go!)  If you missed the first 2:35 of this game, you missed a lot. 30 minutes of penalties, a great off-the-puck-drop fight between Captain Mike Richards and Matt Cooke (who got pummeled at the end of the fight …

Flight Plan: Week of 10.24.2010

Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. After winning their home opener, the Philadelphia Flyers were absolutely abysmal in two of the three losses against teams that had played the night before. The Flyers lost in regulation against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Anaheim Ducks before exploding offensively on Saturday night against a team off to one of the hottest starts in the league in the Toronto Maple Leafs who they beat 5-2. Mike Richards notched his first …

Flight plan: 10.07.10

Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. The Philadelphia Flyers will kick off their week against two good young teams at two different points in their respective franchise history books. The Pittsburgh Penguins, as we all know, are one of the best young teams in the league today. They have built very well through the draft and have become one of the hardest teams to play against in the NHL. The St. Louis Blues on the other hand are a team on …
