John Slaney was picked ninth overall in the 1990 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals. The blue liner was taken after Owen Nolan, Petr Nedved, Mike Ricci, Jaromir Jagr, Scott Scissons, Darryl Sydor, and Derian Hatcher. After spending time with the Caps, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes, and Pittsburgh Penguins, Slaney joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization. The Flyers gave Pittsburgh Kevin Stevens in exchange for Slaney, who took part in 25 games for the Phantoms in 2000-2001. Wade Redden will try and help Boston’s blue line slow down Pittsburgh’s offensive crew, which includes former Calgary Flame Jarome Iginla. Both Redden and Iginla were picked in the first round of the 1995 NHL Draft, as Redden went second overall behind Bryan Berard and Iginla went 11th overall to the Dallas Stars. Dennis Seidenberg has had a respectable career. He has represented his native Germany three times at the Olympics and won the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011.
