The top 25 Flyers prospects under 25

Broad Street Hockey asked me to contribute a list of my top 25 Flyers prospects under the age of 25 back in August. They ran a series of posts on the topic that also featured Anthony SanFilippo, Dustin Leed, Frank Seravalli, Bill Meltzer, and the BSH crew. It was an honor to be asked and to be included in such a high profile group. Not being above facing possible ridicule — Oh, hey there, Niko Hovinen — I opted to publish the list here for public consumption. Have at it, everyone. Future Flyers Report: Zolnierczyk and Gustafsson in the NHL

During the 2011-2012 campaign, the tandem of Harry Zolnierczyk and Erik Gustafsson saw their fair share of action with the Philadelphia Flyers. The pair, who are both in the top six for points with the Adirondack Phantoms this season, each played a game for the Orange and Black over the last several days, as the two participated in at least 30 contests last season. Zolnierczyk suited up for the Flyers in their 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre on Tuesday. Harry Z had two shots on net, two hits, and two blocked shots in 9:50 TOI, as …

Future Flyers Report: Laughton’s Return to Oshawa

Scott Laughton participated in 32 games for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL before he joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ roster for the start of the 2013 season. The gritty forward suited up for five games with Philly before the Orange and Black sent him down. Although he didn’t produce a single point, PIM, and left with an even plus/minus rating, Laughton had 10 shots on net and 10 hits. Laughton’s last game with the Generals before he left for the Flyers was a 4-3 shootout win over Derek Mathers’ Peterborough Petes on January 11th. The pair of Flyers’ prospects had …

Scott Munroe

Munroe the Magnificent stars as Phantoms rout Crunch

Scott Munroe was the silent hero on Sunday afternoon, as he stopped 42-of-43 shots while the rest of the Phantoms uncharacteristically came together as a team and took it to the Syracuse Crunch by a 6-1 score in front of 3,076 fans at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Adirondack (19-24-3) had something to prove after a week of drama on and off the ice including a loss at Syracuse on Friday night. Goals by Erik Gustafsson, Matt Mangene, Jeff Dimmen and David Laliberte  chased starter Riku Helenius out of the net after two periods, while Cullen Eddy and Laliberte tallied in …

Anthony Stolarz

Future Flyers Report: Stolarz Unbeaten with Knights, Cousins Leads OHL in Scoring

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz had a record of 2-5-0 and a save percentage under .900 with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks before he joined the London Knights of the OHL in early January. Since his move, Stolarz has appeared in six games for the Knights and has yet to lose. The 45th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft is 4-0-0 in the OHL with a goals against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .937. After he allowed five goals in his first win a few days after he joined the Knights, a 10-5 win for London over the Ottawa 67′s on January 11th, …

Adirondack Phantoms

Bordson’s Redemption Helps Lead Phantoms Past Admirals

Adirondack’s Rob Bordson made up for his bad pass at the blue line – which gave Norfolk a 3-on-0 and an easy goal – by digging his skates in and scoring two of his own, helping to lead the Phantoms past the Norfolk Admirals 5-2 in front of a crowd of 3,157 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Matt Mangene, Jason Akeson and Shane Harper also lit the lamp for the Phantoms (18-21-3) as the team moved even in the standings with the Admirals (18-22-3) with 39 points. Brian Boucher had 27 saves on the night. Norfolk’s goals were scored …

Future Flyers Report: 1/28

Tye McGinn made his NHL debut on Tuesday night, as his first four games with the Philadelphia Flyers were impressive. Not only did the forward knock around Kris Newbury in his second game, McGinn registered his first goal in the NHL in the first period of Philly’s 7-1 rout of the Florida Panthers on Saturday. On top of that, McGinn has six hits in his first four contests with the Flyers. Unfortunately for Eric Wellwood, McGinn’s success at the highest level helped cause him to be moved down to the Adirondack Phantoms. Wellwood didn’t participate in any games with the Phantoms since …

Future Flyers Report: 1/21

During the opening weekend of the NHL season, a pair of prospects joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ roster in the team’s first two games of the 2013 campaign. The tandem of Scott Laughton, who enjoyed his first two games in the NHL, and Eric Wellwood, who registered at least one game played for the Flyers in each of the last three seasons, went pointless in the Flyers’ losses on Saturday and Sunday, but they did provide some noticeable performances. Laughton, who was picked 20th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, was somewhat of a surprise to make the Flyers’ roster. However, …

Future Flyers Report: 1/14

The Philadelphia Flyers have made some noise lately with a few transactions. In addition to signing blue liner Kurtis Foster, the Orange and Black completed a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes where they received former Flyer Brian Boucher. In addition to Boosh, Philly was dealt defensive prospect Mark Alt. The pair was exchanged for forward prospect Luke Pither. Since most Flyers’ fans are aware of what Boucher brings to the table, many are curious as to what Alt can do. Picked 53rd overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, Alt stands at 6’3″, 203 pounds. The St. …

Trenton Update: 1/4-1/10

The Trenton Titans’ two-game skid turned into a five-game losing streak this week, as the squad dropped all three games on their schedule with a record of 0-2-1. Just as the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate gained a lot of ground in the Eastern Conference with a winning streak a few weeks ago, the team dropped right out of the playoff picture with a losing streak, as Trenton sits 12th in the conference at the moment. A pair of tilts against a team three points ahead of them in the East and a contest against the team leading their division give the …
