For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents. After a road trip where they were shut out twice, the Flyers came home and handled the New York Islanders for a 6-3 win tonight. Matt Read, Claude Giroux, and Andrej Meszaros each recorded three-point performances, while Ilya Bryzgalov made 21 saves for the victory. The end of their four-game road trip wasn’t pretty for the Flyers, as their only two points came in a shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. With a pair of shutout losses, the Flyers have now been shut out five times this season. This time last year, the name Matt Read meant nothing to most people. When the Flyers signed him at the end of last March, a Google search was a near prerequisite to find out detailed information about him. It is amazing how quickly things change. Read is now a reliable NHL forward who can play big minutes in all situations, score clutch goals, and will likely surpass the 20-goal mark in his rookie season. After a dominant victory on Thursday against one of the hotter teams in the league, the Flyers proceeded to drop their next handful of games to suffer their first three-game losing streak of the season.
