(Final) Flyers West Update: The Future is Bright, Flyers Fans

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know by now that the Los Angeles Kings are Stanley Cup Champions. And unless you’ve been living under two rocks, you know that two of the guys who got to hoist the Cup on Monday night were Mike Richards and Jeff Carter — former Philadelphia Flyers who were traded away a little under a year ago. A lot has been said about what their Stanley Cup victory means to the Flyers. It’s left a bitter taste in some mouths, while others still believe that the trades were for the best and the …

Devils outwork Flyers, Even Series With 4-1 Win

In Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series, the Philadelphia Flyers mysteriously showed little to no desire to win tonight’s affair, and the New Jersey Devils muscled their way to a 4-1 road victory. David Clarkson scored his first of the 2012 playoffs with 8:43 left in regulation to give the Devils a 2-1 edge. New Jersey’s #23 found Zach Parise alone in the slot, but couldn’t beat Ilya Bryzgalov due to a poke check from the Flyers’ goaltender. After having a goal earlier in the overtime period waved off, Danny Briere potted the winner 4:36 into the extra frame for a 4-3 win and a 1-0 series advantage for the Flyers in their Eastern Conference Semifinals’ matchup with the New Jersey Devils. “Is it pressure? Leadership, leadership, leadership. It’s a broken record but always up there on the list of things Flyers fans will always want to talk about, second only to the goalie situation. When things are bad, it’s at the forefront of discussion, but when things are good, it fades to the background. The loss of captain Chris Pronger to injury had fans and analysts questioning what the team was going to do as far as replacing him. Would they give the “C” to either Danny Briere or Kimmo Timonen, the alternate captains? Or would they look towards the future and give it …

Read snubbed for Calder consideration

The National Hockey League released its finalists for the Calder Trophy this morning, and Matt Read isn’t on the list. Instead, Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog, Adam Henrique of the New Jersey Devils and #1 overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Edmonton garnered the top three slots. Like they used to say in Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Court: Fair or unfair…UNFAIR!!! Our own Nick D laid down the case for the 25-year-old Bemidji State product last week, and while it may be true that his age was a contributing factor in being left off the ballot, there are several more factors which he still believes …
