Flyers Blanked in New Jersey

The Philadelphia Flyers lost their third straight game tonight in a goalless, penalty-filled 3-0 effort to the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. Martin Brodeur recorded a 24-save shutout, while Travis Zajac provided the game-winning goal just over a minute into the contest. David Clarkson and Ilya Kovalchuk also scored for Jersey in the win, as the Flyers’ special teams hurt them yet again early in the 2013 campaign. Not only did the Flyers’ power play go 0-for-6, they allowed a goal against while on the man advantage due to a short-handed penalty shot tally from Kovalchuk early in …

Vanek and Flyers’ Penalty Kill Hand Philly Second Straight Loss

The Philadelphia Flyers suffered their second loss in 48 hours with a 5-2 defeat in Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. Thomas Vanek accrued five points on two goals and three assists in the Sabres’ first game of the 2013 season.  Tyler Myers registered the game-winning goal in the third period, and Ryan Miller stopped 27-of-29 shots. For the second straight start, you couldn’t blame Ilya Bryzgalov, as he denied 36 of Buffalo’s 40 shots on net. Both Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers in a loss that drops them to 0-2-0 in this shortened season. With the game tied …

A look back at the Vitale hit on Briere and the conceptions behind finishing games

I originally wrote this article back in April, at another time and place under the title “Orange-Colored Glasses”, and I wanted to bring it here to Flyers Faithful for some actual hockey talk amidst all of this lockout excitement. I’ve edited it slightly so it makes a bit more sense being that it’s referencing a game nine months ago. I write this knowing full well it probably won’t be very popular, and most people will probably disagree with me. However, I feel compelled to say it because well…I’m just way too rational of a human being, and seeing a lack …

Slap Hands!

Be More Offensive?

It appears the latest round of negotiations between the National Hockey League and the NHLPA to solve the lockout might lead to some positive results, finally giving the fans a team back to root for. But if the Flyers were to take the ice in the immediate future, would the fans even be happy with what they saw? This has been a relatively disappointing offseason for the Flyers. The bread and butter of the Orange and Black last season was their offense, but it doesn’t appear on paper to have improved. Diving in deeper only causes more concern. The Flyers …
