The Philadelphia Flyers fought hard this week to stay in the playoff hunt, but a laundry list of injuries is only going to make things more difficult for the Orange and Black to reach the postseason. With a depleted defense and the loss of a key energy forward, Philly will need to grab a handful of points against three teams in the playoff picture and one looking to crack the Eastern Conference’s top eight. For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents. For the first time since the middle of November, the Flyers went a week where they only earned two points as they went 1-2-0 in three road games. Although the Flyers had the help of Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn returning to the line-up, they managed to end the week with a pair of losses as they fell out of the top position in the division. Giroux Dazzles Dallas With Four-Point Game

Claude Giroux returned in emphatic fashion tonight from a four-game absence due to a concussion, totaling a goal and three assists as the Philadelphia Flyers took a 4-1 decision over the Stars in Dallas on Wednesday. Despite allowing a goal 56 seconds after the start of the game, Sergei Bobrovsky shut out the Stars for the remainder of regulation in a 30-save victory as the Flyers halted a two-game losing streak. Killing the initial excitement of Giroux’s return, Michael Ryder provided a snipe for the game’s first goal before the game was a minute old. The Philadelphia Flyers had won seven straight and were rolling along despite missing their best forward, their best defenseman, and a few others. Saturday afternoon, that all came to a head. The Flyers were blanked, blown out by the Boston Bruins in the Flyers’ final home game of 2011, by a score of 6-0.
