Claude Giroux backed up his words after the loss on Saturday, as he led the Philadelphia Flyers to an emphatic 7-0 win against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Monday afternoon. The captain, who ripped his teammates for their effort in the wake of listless back-to-back road losses at New Jersey and Montreal, posted two goals and an assist, while he also set the tone early with hustle and physicality. The Philadelphia Flyers learned tonight that it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, as they blew a two-goal lead to lose 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils tonight on the road. David Clarkson provided the game-winner for the hosts halfway through the third period, as the Devils scored four unanswered goals to win for the fifth time in their last six games. Danny Briere scored his second goal of the season at 1:47 of overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers sent Carolina Hurricanes home with a loss for the second straight Saturday, winning 4-3. Briere took an outlet pass from Nicklas Grossmann along the boards, crossed up the defense, and sent a wrist shot, which deflected off the far post and then off the backside of ‘Canes goalie Cam Ward and over the goal line. A slow start and a series of failed special teams’ opportunities in the second period hurt the Philadelphia Flyers tonight in their 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Ryan Callahan had the eventual game-winning goal, as Henrik Lundqvist had 26 stops in the Flyers’ first loss of the season to the Rangers. Future Looks Bright For Scott Laughton

Scott Laughton is not the fastest, nor is he the biggest (6’1, 177 pounds) or the oldest (just 18 years old). He is not the most talented. But, what Scott Laughton did during his five-game trial with the Philadelphia Flyers proved that he could play at the NHL level. During Laughton’s brief stint with the Flyers, he registered zero goals, zero assists, and obviously, zero points. He averaged 11:31 a game, and that time is just not enough to develop a player with his style. I agree with the Flyers’ decision to send Laughton back to Oshawa to play with …

The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at the Tampa Bay Times Forum by the score of 5-1 in Michael Leighton’s first start of 2013. Martin St. Louis had four assists and Teddy Purcell had a goal with two helpers, while Philly’s goalie stopped 21 of 26 shots from the opposition in the loss.
