Before the Kings traded Jack Johnson and a conditional first-round pick to the Blue Jackets back in February, they were the lowest goal-scoring team in the league. The Flyers won three of their four games this week, as all three wins came in one-goal games. In the Flyers’ last three games, they have received no help from the line of Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, and Jaromir Jagr as all three players are pointless since the Flyers’ win on Thursday. The line will look to find their groove again as the Flyers complete their four-game road trip this week before returning home for a game against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. Atlantic Watch: 12/14-12/20

The last two games for the Flyers haven’t been pretty, but there is good news related to the team’s point-leader. Claude Giroux is expected to make a return in the near future, the earliest being tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars, from his concussion. This is good news considering the status of Chris Pronger, who will not take part in another game at any point this season or for the playoffs. With his team going 2-2-0 in his absence, Giroux’s return will hopefully turn things around for the Orange and Black. As for Philly’s games this week, the Flyers extended their winning …

Bryzgalov Returns to Phoenix, Wins 4-2

Returning to Phoenix for the first time since testing the free-agent market and signing with Philly this past Summer, Ilya Bryzgalov handed his former teammates a 4-2 loss — saving 36 shots in the process. Claude Giroux had another game-winner as both Matt Read (who totaled three points in a four-goal first period) and Scott Hartnell provided goals on the power play. Despite being outshot 38-30, the Flyers won their second game in as many days to help Bryzgalov shut up his former Phoenix buddies. The Philadelphia Flyers won two of their four games this week. They were able to record comeback victories over the New York Islanders and the Montreal Canadiens, but they lost and were thoroughly outplayed by both the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers. It seems as if ever since Brayden Schenn broke his foot by blocking a shot, the rest of the team has been dropping like flies, missing a few games or weeks here or there. Matt Read scored with just 18.6 seconds left in regulation to help Ilya Bryzgalov beat his former team as the Flyers edged the Coyotes 2-1. Bryzgalov limited his former team to a single goal on 31 shots, while Read registered his second game-winning score within the last three games. Claude Giroux provided his 12th assist of the season with the primary helper on James van Riemsdyk’s tally which opened the scoring in the second period, which gives him the team lead in that category. The Philadelphia Flyers lost their only game of last week by a score of 2-1 in overtime against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Never mind that the bizarre tactics employed by Peter Laviolette’s team to try to break the Bolts out of their 1-3-1 neutral zone trap ended up making the game look like a Mexican standoff. Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. The Flyers are playing a similar brand to the type of hockey they were playing when they started the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year. They worked hard, scored key goals, got contributions from different players every night.
