Atlantic Watch: Rangers on Winning Streak, Islanders on Point Streak, Devils Need Brodeur, Players Lost on Waivers

The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with a pair of wins, but ended the seven-day stretch on a sour note with a frustrating loss in New York last night. The Orange and Black need to grab some points this week, as two of their three contests over the next seven days are against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. Philly started the week with a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday. Claude Giroux scored just 23 seconds in and Wayne Simmonds converted on a power-play chance a little over four minutes into …

BC’s Gaudreau a “hometown boy does good” story not destined for Philly

If ever there was a player destined to suit up for the Philadelphia Flyers, it’s Boston College freshman forward Johnny Gaudreau. The first-year sensation was born in Carneys Point, New Jersey – and for now is the second most famous name to come from the Salem County town nestled on the Delaware River – on a day of incredible luck for his hometown Philadelphia Phillies. With one game this week, the Flyers look to gain ground in the division as well as beat a team they have already lost to twice this season. The Flyers started the week off with a 4-1 loss to …

Providing his third game-winning goal in as many games for Philadelphia, Claude Giroux put home his 16th goal of the season just past the midway point of overtime to hand the Flyers a 5-4 win in Buffalo to cap a rousing contest Wednesday. He also had three assists on the night for a four-point game as Matt Read, Scott Hartnell, and Jaromir Jagr all scored in the second period to turn a Flyers’ 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead heading into the third. Ilya Bryzgalov made 20 saves on 24 Sabres’ shots as Ville Leino scored the game’s opening goal in Buffalo’s fourth straight loss …

Flight Plan 12.04.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers won both ends of a back-to-back situation for the second time this season, beating both the Anaheim Ducks and the Phoenix Coyotes, and now sit just three points away from tying the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom they will face later this week, for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. With all the injuries the Flyers have taken recently, especially to their blue line, it’s great to see them able to soldier on and pick up valuable points on the road. Claude Giroux scored a goal last night, adding his 15th goal and 32nd point on the year, …
