Then and Now: Steve Downie

Steve Downie was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers 29th overall in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, as he was picked right after the Dallas Stars selected Matt Niskanen and four picks before they took James Neal. The feisty forward hasn’t exactly panned out in the NHL, but he has been serviceable for every team he has suited up for since joining the league. Downie made his debut for the Flyers’ organization by playing in a Philadelphia Phantoms’ game in 2006-2007 before he saw significant time with both the squads during the 2007-2008 campaign. Then and Now: Arron Asham

Arron Asham has played for six NHL teams over his career and he may be with a seventh when the start of the 2013-2014 season starts. After being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1996 and playing for the squad until 2002, Asham joined the New York Islanders for four seasons. The enforcer then endured a season with the New Jersey Devils before he became a member of the Philadelphia Flyers in the summer of 2008. Asham had a 10-point campaign with the Devils in 2007-2008 and posted 84 PIMs before he had 20 points and 155 PIMs in 78 …

Frequent Flyer Miles: Jagr joins the Devils, Delmore retires and becomes assistant coach, Riopel to play in Denmark

It was a slow week in terms of the movement of former Philadelphia Flyers and Philly’s draft picks, as only three former players and two draft picks switched clubs. The most notable move was Jaromir Jagr joining the New Jersey Devils. Jagr was a member of the Flyers in 2011-2012, where he posted 53 points in 73 tilts and eight points in 11 contests during the 2012 postseason. He played with HC Kladno in the Czech’s Tipsport Extraliga during the lockout before playing for the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins this past season. Jagr failed to score a goal in …
