Matt Read Signs 4-Year Extension

In a move to try and keep the team’s young core together for the foreseeable future, the Flyers signed Matt Read Friday night to a 4-year contract extension, worth $14.5 million. Read was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013-14 season. After being signed out of Bemidji State University, Read posted a rookie-high 24 goals and 23 assists in 79 games for the Flyers in 2012-2013. As the beginning of the NHL season nears, several former Philadelphia Flyers, draft picks of the team, and former members of the organization were involved in transactions this week. The biggest news might be the New York Rangers releasing Johan Hedberg, who was with the team on a Professional Try-Out.
