Pretending as if nothing were to happen with the Collective Bargaining Agreement talks or placing faith that the start of the 2012-13 season will commence and complete in uninterrupted fashion, the National Hockey League issued its season television schedule for North America on Thursday. During the 2010-2011 offseason the New Jersey Devils landed the grand prize of Free Agency, Ilya Kovalchuk, when he was signed to a 17 year $102 million contract. That contract was, as many expected at the time, rejected by the NHL because it was deemed to circumvent the salary cap. At the time, Kovalchuk was 27 years old, so the contract would take him to age 44. As we reach Part II of assigning value to the Flyers assets on the roster, things begin to get much more convoluted and less black and white. Last week I went into great detail breaking down the core pieces of the roster, but now it gets much more difficult. Scottie Do: Flyers give Hartnell multi-year extension

Another domino falls in the Flyers’ direction. Following on the heels of Wayne Simmonds’ six-year contract extension, Scott Hartnell has been signed to a six-year contract extension on Monday. Tim Panaccio reports the contract is for $28.5 million over the six years, which results in a cap hit of only $4.75 million; a very modest raise over his current $4.2 million cap hit. “We are pleased to announce that we have agreed with Scott on a multi-year extension,” said Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. “Scott has been a very good player for us over the last five seasons and we look …

CBA 101: No-trade and no-movement clauses

The standard player contract (SPC) of a Group 3 unrestricted free agent can contain a specific clause which prevents the player from being involuntarily moved from their current team. There are two types of clauses, the no-trade clause and the no-movement clause. As you might imagine, the no-trade clause prevents a player from being traded to another team without their express permission. A no-movement clause not only prevents the player from being traded, but also prevents their relocation by loan or waivers as well.
