Mark Alt joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization just before the beginning of this shortened NHL season began back in the middle of January. In a deal that also brought Brian Boucher back to Philly, the Orange and Black also acquired Alt from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Luke Pither.Alt spent this season with the University of Minnesota, a squad that was upset by the Yale Bulldogs in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren confirmed on Sunday morning that the club inked defenseman Mark Alt to an entry-level contract. He’ll be on an amateur tryout deal for the remainder of this season with the Adirondack Phantoms, and his pro contract is set to kick in next season. “It has been an honor to play for the Gophers for the last three years,” said Alt to Gophersports.com. “I want to thank the fans, my teammates and coaches for making it such a great experience. Win streak ends in Winnipeg, Flyers lose 4-1 to Jets

The Philadelphia Flyers saw their four-game win streak snapped today in Winnipeg with a 4-1 loss to the Jets. Evander Kane and Bryan Little each had a goal and an assist, while Blake Wheeler registered two assists in a four-goal second period for the Jets. Ruslan Fedotenko was the lone Flyer to beat Ondrej Pavelec, as the goaltender made 30 saves for the win. Ilya Bryzgalov made 12 saves on 16 shots against before being pulled after the conclusion of the second period. The Philadelphia Flyers extended their season-high winning streak to four games tonight with a 5-3 decision over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre. Sean Couturier and Erik Gustafsson both recorded two-assist nights, while Jay Rosehill was credited with the eventual game-winner against his former squad. Ilya Bryzgalov may have allowed three goals on 28 shots, but he and the Flyers’ defense did come up big in the third period when the Leafs surged late in the contest. The endless goaltending soap opera just got a spin-off. In their first foray into dealing ahead of the 3 PM trade deadline, the Flyers acquired Steve Mason from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Multiple reports initially stated it is for multiple draft picks, but with the club at the 50-contract limit thanks to picking up Adam Hall off waivers, another body had go to accommodate current CBA rules. The Flyers aren’t a team that gets too comfortable outside of the playoffs. Sitting with less than a 10 percent chance of qualifying as of today, this might be just the second time since 1994 that they miss the postseason. Hall, a 32-year-old Michigan native, posted four assists in 20 games with the Bolts, after failing to record a point in six appearances with Carolina earlier in the season. Oliver Lauridsen experienced a sample size of professional hockey with the Adirondack Phantoms in the 2010-2011 season before spending the entire 2011-2012 campaign with the club.
