If there’s one thing we can count on as the trade deadline approaches, it’s that Paul Holmgren will more often than not seek out, and consummate, a deal with a favorable Western Conference trading partner. This time, it’s the Anaheim Ducks. The Flyers made the move official on Monday evening, shipping Harry Zolnierczyk to Orange County for Jay Rosehill. Despite all the good which may result from a 5-4 overtime comeback victory over the Washington Capitals last night, what’s this 2013 season if not one for injury misfortunes? On Monday, the Flyers added one more to the pile, reporting that forward Max Talbot suffered a broken left leg and is out indefinitely. Talbot suffered the injury late in the second period after a knee-to-knee collision with a Capitals defender. He left the ice unable to put any pressure on the leg and had to be carried by team staff into the locker room. The 29-year-old native of Quebec was …

CBA Explained: No move/trade clauses

I discussed no move and no trade clauses in my CBA 101 series last year, however, the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) introduced a slight tweak to those rules that we have already seen come to fruition this NHL season. You may as well call this the “Jeff Carter clause”. Ruslan Fedotenko beat Braden Holtby in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 5-4 win in front of the home crowd tonight. After Kimmo Timonen tied the game with just under 10 seconds left in regulation, the blue liner set up Fedotenko for the game-winning tally in the extra frame to grab the Flyers two points in the standings. The Philadelphia Flyers are feeling a little bit better about themselves today as they beat the Boston Bruins yesterday by a score of 3-1. Despite losing three of their last four games, they gained a point in two of them and are currently just four points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. This week will see them host the Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens, before travelling north to visit the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets. Bryzgalov leads Flyers to 3-1 win over Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers grabbed two points today with a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins today at the Wells Fargo Center. The trio of Mike Knuble, Matt Read, and Ruslan Fedotenko found the back of the net today, as the only visitor to beat Ilya Bryzgalov in victory was Nathan Horton. Bryz had 33 saves to Tuukka Rask’s 19, as Rask allowed two goals on 21 shots. A Flyers insider reported and the club later confirmed that defensive help is on the way…and it’s not from Adirondack. Minutes into Saturday’s Flyers-Bruins tilt, word came down that Paul Holmgren worked the phones and acquired little-used blueliner Kent Huskins from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2014. According to the Wings’ Twitter, it is a seventh-round choice. In true Flyers fashion, it’s a steal: if they don’t sign Huskins to a contract by next October, that conditional pick is off the board.
