Earlier this week the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization signed Kyle Flanagan, a forward that recently completed his senior year at St. Lawrence University, to a one-year entry-level contract. The 24-year-old, who finished second on St. Lawrence’s squad with 47 points in 35 games and was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, will join the Adirondack Phantoms on an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of the 2012-2013 regular season. In his first two games with Adirondack Flanagan had two helpers. In the ECHL, forward Shane Harper had a weekend to remember, as he helped the Trenton Titans go 3-0-0 while …

Kennedy scores winner in overtime, Flyers lose 2-1 in Pittsburgh

Unfortunately for the Philadelphia Flyers they couldn’t continue their annual tradition of ending a lengthy Pittsburgh Penguins’ winning streak, as the Pens squeaked out a 2-1 overtime win at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight. Tyler Kennedy’s fifth goal of this shortened season beat Ilya Bryzgalov 2:33 into overtime, as Pittsburgh extended their winning streak to 12 games. Claude Giroux was the lone Flyer to beat Marc-Andre Fleury in the loss, while Sidney Crosby took advantage off a 5-on-3 power play late in the contest to send it past regulation. Fleury had 27 saves to Bryzgalov’s 33 to earn the win this …

With the trade deadline quickly approaching on April 3, the Flyers will have some decisions to make. Whether or not they think they can make the playoffs will dictate whether they “buy” or “sell”. Should they try to acquire a talented player that can be a benefit for years to come (think Byfuglien)? Should they make a strong playoff push and acquire a talented (but possibly expiring) veteran (think Morrow or Iginla)? Should they “sell” some of their own lesser pieces (think Talbot or Fedotenko)? Or should they do nothing at all?

His tweet from Monday: “You can draw up the contract right now, but Giroux will get 71-72 million over 8 years. Late last night, the report from Bob McKenzie from TSN of Canada was that the Flyers signed free agent forward Kyle Flanagan from St. Lawrence to an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of this season and a one-year deal for 2013-14. He is expected to report to Adirondack of the AHL by Friday at the latest. Flanagan, a native of the university town of Canton, New York, finished his senior season with 15 goals and 47 points in 32 games. The Philadelphia Flyers lost another pivotal game tonight in Tampa Bay, as the Lightning handed the visitors a 4-2 loss. Teddy Purcell deposited the game-winner halfway through the third period, while Steven Stamkos recorded his 200th goal in the NHL in a two-point effort.
