Per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, every NHL team is permitted to have 50 players under contract in their entire organization; including players that are not with the parent club. This was the reason that the Flyers were required to include Jon Kalinski in the trade for Pavel Kubina. The Flyers already had 50 contracts, so they could not acquire Kubina without shedding a contract first. With six games remaining in their schedule, the Phantoms did enough this week to stay within striking distance of the eigth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Four points behind the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings’ AHL affiliate) with a game in hand, Adirondack has a chance to gain the final spot for the postseason, which will surely result in being swept by the Norfolk Admirals (Tampa Bay Lightning’s AHL affiliate). In their three home games this week, the Flyers were able to clinch a playoff spot with a pair of wins over teams currently sitting outside the postseason scenario. Unfortunately, Ilya Bryzgalov suffered a chip fracture in his right foot. Hopefully for Philly, Bryzgalov will be back by the end of next week when the club takes on the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers as part of their four-game schedule over the next few days. The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects. Forwards: Marcel Noebels finally broke out offensively , scoring four goals and assisting on two in three games with Portland. Nick Cousins added four more points (2g, 2a) to his totals last week which moved him up to 7th overall in the OHL scoring race. The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects. Brendan Ranford moved up from 13th to 10th in WHL scoring after another strong weekly performance.
