The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t help their case to make the 2013 postseason this week, as they only earned two points over three games. To make matters worse, the Orange and Black will endure a five-day break to let the other teams in the Eastern Conference catch up with them in games played. After their lengthy break, the Flyers play a game in Pittsburgh before starting a five-game homestand against another Atlantic Division club fighting to make the playoffs. The KHL playoffs start today, as 16 of the league’s 26 clubs compete for the Gagarin Cup. Since the NHL and KHL are huge competitors, it’s interesting to look at the players on the current KHL playoff teams to see just how many are former Philadelphia Flyers or NHLers. On top of that, some clubs’ prospects are in the 16-team field. Flyers Go To Third Straight Shootout, Lose 2-1 To Jets

After two high-scoring affairs earlier in the season, the Flyers lost 2-1 in a shootout to the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, as both teams buckled down for a more defensive game this time around. Bryan Little was the only player to score in the shootout, as the Jets’ forward gave Winnipeg the additional point with the final shot in the third round. Chris Thorburn tallied and Ondrej Pavelec made 27 saves during regulation for the win, as the Jets ended their three-game losing streak. Matt Read provided an excellent game-winning goal for the Flyers on Thursday, but that was the only good news Philly received all week as they are currently enduring a two-game losing streak with several key players missing the lineup in the process. Chris Pronger, Braydon Coburn, and Jaromir Jagr are important players on the Flyers’ roster. Jagr plays an important role in Philly’s most productive offensive trio, while the defense must rely on AHL call-ups when both Pronger and Coburn are absent from the lineup. The Philadelphia Flyers were on a pretty good run, collecting points in eight straight games. That streak dated all the way back to October 27 when they played the Winnipeg Jets in a wild game where 17 goals were scored and the Flyers ended up losing 9-8. The Philadelphia Flyers lost their only game of last week by a score of 2-1 in overtime against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Never mind that the bizarre tactics employed by Peter Laviolette’s team to try to break the Bolts out of their 1-3-1 neutral zone trap ended up making the game look like a Mexican standoff. The week opened up roughly, but it ended smoothly as the Flyers seem to be moving towards playing better after a 5-1 win at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. Giving up 14 goals in back-to-back nights, the Flyers lost in inexplicable fashion to two currently horrendous teams, who are both experiencing difficulties in play and personnel. Rebounding back from those two horrific losses, the Flyers spanked Carolina with both Danny Briere and Chris Pronger out of the lineup. Overcoming a four-goal deficit, scoring three goals early in the third period, and taking part in a game with 17 goals overall unfortunately meant just one thing for the Philadelphia Flyers tonight – an incredible 9-8 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Tanner Glass, Blake Wheeler, and Nik Antropov all had three points for the former Thrashers tonight as the visitors registered a symmetrical three goals in each period.
