Frequent Flyer Miles: Syvret traded to New York, Fedotenko and Kane leave for KHL, Nodl out in Carolina

There weren’t a lot of noteworthy former Philadelphia Flyers involved in transactions this week, but there were several lesser known former Flyers that moved and a lengthy list of former Phantoms that signed with different teams. The biggest news could surround the tandem of Jaromir Jagr and Danny Briere. Jagr, who was told by Peter Chiarelli and the Boston Bruins last week he wouldn’t return to the team for next season, could return to the 2013 Eastern Conference champions, as Chiarelli said it’s possible they could contact the veteran forward for his services if need be. As for Briere, the …

The top 25 Flyers prospects under 25

Broad Street Hockey asked me to contribute a list of my top 25 Flyers prospects under the age of 25 back in August. They ran a series of posts on the topic that also featured Anthony SanFilippo, Dustin Leed, Frank Seravalli, Bill Meltzer, and the BSH crew. It was an honor to be asked and to be included in such a high profile group. Not being above facing possible ridicule — Oh, hey there, Niko Hovinen — I opted to publish the list here for public consumption. Have at it, everyone. Atlantic Watch: 1/23-1/29

The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with a pair of wins, but a pair of lackadaisical efforts led to two losses where they were outscored 7-2. The Orange and Black find themselves at the bottom of the division with a trio of meetings against Southeast Division opponents over the next seven days. With a record of 0-3-0 and playing a team they went 0-6-0 against in 2011-2012, the Flyers’ 2-1 win over the visiting New York Rangers wasn’t expected on Thursday night. After a scoreless opening stanza, the tandem of Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek registered their first goals of …

Future Flyers Report: 1/28

Tye McGinn made his NHL debut on Tuesday night, as his first four games with the Philadelphia Flyers were impressive. Not only did the forward knock around Kris Newbury in his second game, McGinn registered his first goal in the NHL in the first period of Philly’s 7-1 rout of the Florida Panthers on Saturday. On top of that, McGinn has six hits in his first four contests with the Flyers. Unfortunately for Eric Wellwood, McGinn’s success at the highest level helped cause him to be moved down to the Adirondack Phantoms. Wellwood didn’t participate in any games with the Phantoms since …

“Sick” Hovinen’s contract to be terminated

Per TSN of Canada’s Bob McKenzie, and the great echo chamber that is Twitter, the Philadelphia Flyers will request unconditional waivers on goaltending prospect Niko Hovinen for the princely sum of $125 dollars. The 24-year-old Finn never lived up to expectations and mystified many within the organization for his perceived lack of adjustment to the North American game and a lack of work ethic. Hovinen was a bust at Phantoms training camp in September and was shuttled down one level. He went 4-6-3 with a 3.14 goals-against average and .889 save percentage in 16 appearances for Trenton of the ECHL …
