Flight Plan: Week of 11.21.2010

Flight Plan is a column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. All good things must come to an end and so did the Philadelphia Flyers’ run of gaining at least a point in the standings over 10 games in a three-zip loss to the Montreal Canadiens, which was also the first time the Flyers high-powered offense failed to find the back of the net this season. During those 10 games the Flyers went 9-0-1, scored 44 of their 75 goals on the season, and limited their opponents …

The morning after: Flyers @ Capitals 11.20.10

“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. Coming off two losses, both of which had a lack of defensive play, the Flyers needed to not only win this game, but play a better defensive game against a very high-scoring and deeply talented Washington Capitals team.   Brian Boucher got the start in this game, giving Sergei Bobrovsky a much-deserved rest, and some fans angina. The Flyers were thoroughly outplayed in the first period.  At the end of the period, it should have been at least …

The morning after: Islanders @ Flyers 10.30.10

“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. I think of the Islanders as a measuring stick for your team.  Meaning if your team loses to the Islanders, they suck and will end up being moved to Las Vegas.  If your team wins, then they get two points.  Good deal, huh? This was the Flyers Halloween game, and there were some frightful things going on in this game.  Chief among them: Rick DiPietro’s pads (although for a good cause) and, oh yeah, his play.  I …

The morning after: Flyers @ Penguins 10.29.10

“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. Wow!  Excitement at the beginning and the end of this game (lacking somewhat in the middle).  Viewed as a whole, it was a good game to start the “dad weekend”.  (Aside: Who wants to party with the Carcillos?  Here we go!)  If you missed the first 2:35 of this game, you missed a lot. 30 minutes of penalties, a great off-the-puck-drop fight between Captain Mike Richards and Matt Cooke (who got pummeled at the end of the fight …
