You might remember this guy from such roles as Flyers 2013 defenseman

The (positive) outlook on defense

It is unlikely that this offseason will feature more than two big moves on defense for the Flyers. There will be no Keith Yandle, Alex Pietrangelo or Shea Weber patrolling Philadelphia’s blue line. The Flyers have been interested in Yandle for a few years now and they finally managed to get him. Well, not him. They go Mark Streit and he’s kind of like Yandle. They both have the same cap hit and both put up nearly the same amount of points in the last two seasons (Streit had 74 points and Yandle had 73). Streit may be older but he …

2013 Year in Review: Sean Couturier

The simple answer as to whether Sean Couturier had a good 2013 season would be no. If you look at his general statistics, Couturier had a poor year. However, when grading Philly’s first-round pick in 2011 one should consider these things: his defensive play, a possible sophomore slump, and the expectations for him following the 2012 playoffs. When you consider these things for Couturier’s overall 2013 rating, did he really have that poor of a season? Let’s starts with his point production. In 45 games, Couturier finished with just four goals and posted 11 helpers. He also produced 10 PIMs …

2013 Year in Review: Oliver Lauridsen

It’s hard to give an overall review of a player that wasn’t expected to play for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2013 season, but Oliver Lauridsen played respectively considering the situation he was put in this year. With the experience he gained this season, Lauridsen’s review for next year could be even more positive if the Flyers bring him back. Due to the overwhelming number of injuries on Philadelphia’s blue line this season, Lauridsen saw time at the NHL level. Being the first defenseman picked in the seventh round or later by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft …

Flyers face decisions with crowded blueline…again

So I sit down to begin this article, and I write the headline “Flyers face decisions with crowded blueline” and then I think to myself… “wait, didn’t I write something similar last summer”. Of course I go take a look and, sure enough, I did. I wrote almost the same exact article last summer that I am about to begin now. It’s the same story, with different players, and some slightly different circumstances. The major difference is timing. Last summer I wrote the article after the Flyers had made their defensive acquisitions. They knew who they had and it was just …
