There has been a recent re-emergence of gritty, American leaders marching their teams deep into the playoffs. Last year alone three of the four teams in the Conference Finals were lead by tough, hard-nosed U.S. countrymen: Dustin Brown (LAK); Ryan Callahan (NYR); Zach Parise (NJD). Flight Plan: Week of 01.28.2013

The Philadelphia Flyers had an even-up week as they won two games against the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers, and lost two games against the New Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning. As it sits, the Flyers are owners of a 2-4-0 record with four points, which is good enough for last in the Atlantic Division. For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents.
