2013 Year in Review: Bruno Gervais

At the start of a season all players, from pee-wee all the way up to the pros, are looking to improve themselves.  Becoming better than the year before is essential for success, especially in the National Hockey League, where each and every offseason every team is adding new talent, working out harder and training to make themselves better. In the case of Bruno Gervais, he did the exact opposite. I’m not quite sure what Paul Holmgren thought he was going to get when he signed the 28-year old defenseman who wasn’t good enough to be kept around by either the …

2013 Year In Review: Simon Gagne

Thanks to a trade with the Los Angeles Kings, Simon Gagne returned to the Flyers on February 26 in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick. With him come raised expectations for a Flyers season. The team had fallen into an early season funk, and the return of Gagne – who had been a repeated healthy scratch for the Kings – was to provide a veteran boost both on the ice and in the locker room. Gagne’s return engagement with the Flyers was like that of a movie script. He arrived just in time to suit up, received a standing ovation …

2013 Year in Review: Oliver Lauridsen

It’s hard to give an overall review of a player that wasn’t expected to play for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2013 season, but Oliver Lauridsen played respectively considering the situation he was put in this year. With the experience he gained this season, Lauridsen’s review for next year could be even more positive if the Flyers bring him back. Due to the overwhelming number of injuries on Philadelphia’s blue line this season, Lauridsen saw time at the NHL level. Being the first defenseman picked in the seventh round or later by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft …

Philadelphia Flyers Forward Jakub Voracek was involved in a car accident earlier today. Voracek crashed his Ferrari into a truck near his home town in Kladno, Czech Republic.  The 23 year-old Flyers winger was luckily uninjured in the accident.  Paul Holmgren spoke with Jake earlier in the day and released a statement about it.  “He was involved in a car accident in the Czech Republic.  Although his car did suffer damage, there were no injuries.  Jake is fine,” said Holmgren. The news was first reported by a Czech news outlet (sport.cz) According to the site, Voracek tried to avoid hitting the truck …

2013 Draft Eligibles: Could Medicine Hat Tiger Hunter Shinkaruk be on the Flyers radar?

Since losing defenseman Chris Pronger to a devastating eye injury back on October 24, 2011, the Flyers defensive corps has been downright dismal and unimpressive for the most part. Jared Abbott and I believe the Flyers will draft a defenseman with the 11th overall pick such as Rasmus Ristolainen, Ryan Pulock, Nikita Zadorov, or Mirco Mueller. However, we’re just guessing based on organizational need. Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren does have a tendency of taking forwards in the first round and I would not be shocked if the orange and black go after a forward with their first selection. I …
