With just five games left, the Flyers’ 2013 season has been marred by inconsistency on every inch of the ice. On the surface, it felt particularly frustrating from an offensive standpoint. This past week brought about more of the same for the Flyers: mind-numbing inconsistency. After providing some hope with a little streak of 4-1-1, the team proceeded to drop two crucial contests against currently superior Eastern Conference foes New Jersey and Montreal before flipping the script and dominating the New York Islanders. The Philadelphia Flyers were dormant as the 2011 NHL Trade Deadline passed as of 3 p.m. (et). Flyers’ GM Paul Holmgren awoke from his slumber to make just one minor deal, acquiring prospect forward Tom Sestito from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for prospects Michael Chaput and Greg Moore.
