Nittany Lions swept by Air Force; Set to face RIT and Vermont this weekend

The first road trip of the year for the Penn State Nittany Lions did not go according to plan. Penn State drop both games to the Air Force Academy 5-2 and 3-1 last Friday and Saturday respectively. Friday night’s contest was a flat out disappointment. Penalties once again plagued Guy Gadowsky’s squad early on as sophomore David Glen was whistled for slashing less than five minutes into the game.  Scott Holm would give the Falcons a 1-0 lead on the powerplay as Cole Gunner sent a pass from the right corner to Chad Demers in front who tipped it on …

Penn State defeats Army in Pegula Ice Arena opener; Set to face Air Force this weekend in Colorado

(Photo by: Mark Selders What a weekend it was to be a Penn Stater! Hundreds of thousands of alumni (including myself) returned to State College last weekend for one of the most thoroughly entertaining homecoming weekends in recent memory. First, their was the time honored tradition of the homecoming parade Friday night. Report: Penn State Seeking Replacement for Home Opener

With the government shutdown in full effect it’s unclear whether or not Army will be able to travel to Penn State Friday to play the Nittany Lions in the Pegula Ice Arena opener. Mike McMahon of College Hockey News reported Monday on Twitter that Penn State was searching for a replacement team and may have actually found one. Kyle Rossi of Thank You Terry examined a couple possible solutions Penn State can go with should Army not be able to travel to University Park. My hunch is that Penn State will open Pegula on Friday as scheduled.  It won’t be …

Will Penn State prove the naysayers wrong this season?

The Wisconsin Badgers, as voted upon by the B1G coaches, were chosen as the preseason favorite for the inaugural B1G hockey conference. Not much of surprise, since the Badgers return nine seniors and seven juniors after reaching the NCAA tournament last year. The Minnesota Gophers were voted to finish second, with Michigan slotted for third, Michigan State and Ohio State projected to tie for fourth and Penn State to finish last. Penn State fans may object to where their team is ranked, but in all honesty, it’s where they should be right now. The key word is right now. Like …
