After learning that they wouldn’t be in the playoffs for the second time in the last 18 seasons, the Flyers pulled off two straight wins. The Philadelphia Flyers have seven games remaining in their 2013 season. Yesterday they lost to the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 1-0. They are not technically mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they will be this week with relative ease. Even if they win out, the Flyers would need all of the teams above them to lose just about every game. Four of the seven games on Philadelphia’s docket are this week against the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Despite losing three of their last four games, they gained a point in two of them and are currently just four points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia Flyers were never really in the game tonight, as they fell to the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre by the score of 4-1. Both Brendan Gallagher and Rene Bourque had a goal and an assist, while the pair of Brian Gionta and Max Pacioretty each registered two helpers in the Canadiens’ third straight victory. For the first time since his hat-trick on January 7th against the Ottawa Senators, Danny Briere registered a goal that wasn’t an empty-netter in the Flyers’ 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens tonight. Briere’s two goals came at a crucial time in Philly’s victory, as his pair of power-play tallies in the second period helped the Flyers win their third game of the season over the Canadiens. “I just want to find a way to keep scoring goals,” said Briere. “It’s been an up and down season but the team keeps winning and that is all that matters.” Special teams played …

The Flyers went 2-1-1 in a week that featured a lot of ups and downs for the guys in Orange and Black. The Philadelphia Flyers have now won five games in a row and are sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with 39 points and 101 goals scored, being the first team in the NHL to reach 100 goals this season.
