Flyers hang on for 3-2 win, end three-game losing streak

Both the Philadelphia Flyers and the Buffalo Sabres entered tonight’s game at the Wells Fargo Center on three-game losing streaks, but the hosts were able to grab a 3-2 victory to end their skid. Claude Giroux had the game-winning goal just 17 seconds into the second period and Kimmo Timonen had two helpers in the win, while Ilya Bryzgalov had 17 stops for the decision. The Philadelphia Flyers played as well, if not better, than Boston for most of today’s game, but let things get away from them during a brief span in the first period to let the Bruins grab a 3-0 win. Tuukka Rask stopped all 23 shots from the Flyers for his second shutout of the year, as the trio of Tyler Seguin, Chris Kelly, and Daniel Paille beat Ilya Bryzgalov in a span of 2:18. The Philadelphia Flyers had the Pittsburgh Penguins right where they wanted them after the first period, but the visitors responded with four unanswered goals to pull off the 5-4 win tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Chris Kunitz had the game-winner on a night where he had two goals and an assist, while Sidney Crosby posted a three-assist performance. Tomas Vokoun earned the win after he relieved Marc-Andre Fleury, as he denied all 14 of the shots he faced. Flyers Outlast Sens In Goalie Duel

Wayne Simmonds scored on a beautiful goal in the second period, beating Ottawa goaltender Ben Bishop between the pads to give the Flyers a two-goal lead in an eventual 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. Simmonds started the play in his own end, gave an outlet pass to Danny Briere, who dropped it off for Brayden Schenn, who fed a cross-ice pass to Simmonds who went forehand, backhand, and eventually five-hole to beat Bishop. How much can one reasonably expect from a goaltender when playing him almost nightly behind a worn down, somewhat-ramshackle NHL defense? If you live in Philadelphia, the answer may be to simply look at his cap hit for your answer. Flyers Beat Capitals In Gagne’s Return

Claude Giroux led the way, scoring a goal and an assist, and Simon Gagne lit the lamp in his return to Philadelphia, as the Flyers defeated the Washington Capitals 4-1. The Orange and Black improved to 10-11-1 on the season and 2-2-0 on their current home stand. Scoring along with Giroux were Wayne Simmonds and Max Talbot, while goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made his 20th start of the season and earned the win after saving 22-of-23 shots.
