For the last three NHL Drafts, the Philadelphia Flyers have picked seven defensemen. Of those seven, three are Americans, as there has been at least one blue liner from the United States picked in each of the last three years. One of those three American d-men is Shayne Gostisbehere, who was picked in the most recent draft. The Margate, Florida native is currently representing the U.S.A. at the World Junior Championship. On Tuesday, the Flyers issued an update on the condition of general manager Paul Holmgren. “Holmgren was injured in a bicycle accident at the South Jersey shore on Monday, Sept. 5.” Holmgren also released the following statement to the media early this morning: “[I am] sore, but otherwise in good spirits.” President & Chief Operating Officer of Comcast-Spectacor Peter A. While us penguins continue to wilt in the usual Northeastern Summer heat, pining for the days when a cool iceberg awaits our collectively scorched behinds, thoughts about the upcoming (and too far off) season still seep their way into our Sun-addled brains. Courtesy of the Philadelphia Daily News Michael Strulson, a third-generation owner of a set of Flyers season tickets, never thought there would be a day that he would consider not renewing his center-ice seats at the Wells Fargo Center.
