Kesler’s two goals help Canucks to road win, Flyers lose 3-2

The Philadelphia Flyers played with a lead for most of the game, but their inability to convert on chances hurt them once again, as the Vancouver Canucks grabbed a 3-2 win tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Ryan Kesler had a pair of goals in the win including the game-winner, while Chris Higgins provided the second tally of the game for the visitors. Roberto Luongo had 20 saves in the road win. Tye McGinn is making his case to stay on the Flyers’ roster, as he had both of the team’s tallies tonight in the loss. Steve Mason produced another …

Giroux Problems

Flyers, Doctors and Clergymen Baffled by Giroux Scoring Woes

6 games into the 2013-14 NHL season and Flyers captain, Claude Giroux, has only registered one assist. That is because he has forgotten how to score. Literally. “I, uh, get on the ice & uh… I feel like I’m missing something,” said Giroux after practice on Monday. “A what? goal?” Giroux said when asked if he forgot how to score a goal, “Goal? Goal? Goal? Goal? Go-al? Go-al? G-oal? Goa-l? I’m sorry, I just don’t understand that word.” The Flyers, eager and anxious to see their all- star center scoring again, have put together a team of Doctors, specialist, eastern …

Petition: Make Whoomp! (There It Is) the new goal song

Earlier today, I set up an important petition. Perhaps the most important petition of our lifetime. What is my goal? To get the Flyers to change their goal song to Tag Team’s “Whoomp! (There It Is)”. You can sign the petition here. We all miss Bro Hymn. It’s true. It doesn’t matter if we stole it from the Ducks, it still felt like ours and it felt right. But its time has come and gone. DOOP was Danny Briere’s request, and it disappeared from Philadelphia along with the diminutive French Canadian’s contract. Besides, we shouldn’t be stealing from the Philadelphia …

Through six games faceoffs have been much improved for Sean Couturier

In his first two seasons in the NHL the faceoff dot has not been kind to Sean Couturier, but perhaps he is beginning to turn the corner in 2013-2014. In his rookie season Couturier took the third most faceoffs on the team at 804, trailing Claude Giroux and Danny Briere, but he won only 47% of them. That placed him at a cool 71st in the league among all forwards that qualified. The sophomore campaign actually proved to be worse as he took 553 draws (remember, it was a shortened season), only trailing Giroux in attempts, but he only won …

Flight Plan: What Do We Do When We Fall Off The Horse…

The Philadelphia Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette after a loss last Sunday to the Carolina Hurricanes. They promoted Craig Berube to head coach. Since then, they are 1-2-0, as they beat the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, but lost to the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings, and have scored just five goals in that span. Berube wants to institute a more defensively conscious system, with emphasis on positional play, puck support, all while playing an uptempo, skating heavy game. So far under Berube, the team has had a bit more jump than they showed in the first three games …
