Atlantic Watch: 1/18-1/24

The Flyers went 2-1-1 in a week that featured a lot of ups and downs for the guys in Orange and Black. After a week that featured a loss to the Islanders, a Scott Hartnell record a natural hat trick, and their first shootout win of the season, the Flyers are still trailing the Rangers for the top spot in the division. With one game this week, the Flyers look to gain ground in the division as well as beat a team they have already lost to twice this season. The Flyers started the week off with a 4-1 loss to …

The Philadelphia Flyers finally proved they don’t need to practice the shootout, as they beat the Florida Panthers tonight 3-2 in a shootout in Sunrise. Claude Giroux, who saw his goal drought extended to 11 games, nonetheless came through with the decisive goal in the shootout, while Brayden Schenn and Jakub Voracek both scored in the first period for Philly. Hartnell’s Natural Hat Trick And Talbot’s Two-Goal Game Not Enough Against Bruins

Scott Hartnell’s natural hat trick in the second period wasn’t enough for the Philadelphia Flyers, as they put up a great fight but fell to the Boston Bruins by a 6-5 count on Sunday evening thanks to Tyler Seguin’s shootout winner. Milan Lucic, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Seguin each registered a goal and an assist, while Adam McQuaid had two assists for Boston. Tim Thomas stopped 33 of the Flyers’ 38 shots and picked up an atypical win in the process. Seguin notched the decisive goal in the shootout, as he undressed Ilya Bryzgalov before he slid the puck …

Hartnell Powers Flyers To 4-1 Win In New Jersey; Briere concussed

Scott Hartnell recorded a pair of power-play goals, and his second was the game-winning goal for Philly in their bittersweet 4-1 decision over the Devils in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. Wayne Simmonds posted his first three-point game in the NHL and Claude Giroux had a pair of assists, while Ilya Bryzgalov came up with his second strong performance, stopping 30-of-31 shots. The news got a little darker in the post-game, when GM Paul Holmgren revealed that Danny Briere suffered a concussion on an unknown play and will be out indefinitely. “I’m not too good right now,” Briere said in a post-game text. …

Live Hockey

So, I saw the game in Nashville this past Saturday. Wait, that’s too subdued. SO! I SAW the GAME in NASHVILLE last week and it WAS AWESOME! Yeah, that’s better. Well, Flyers lost and that sucked royally and even sadder was the consensus of the Flyers fans around me when we found out that Bryzgalov would be in goal. “Yeah, we’re gonna lose.” But that’s an entirely different discussion. I haven’t been to a live NHL game since March of last year, and any live hockey game since May of last year. The Bridgestone Arena in Nashville is really nice. …

John Tavares had two assists to extend his point streak, while Evgeni Nabokov stopped 40 saves for the win to snap the Islanders’ eight-game losing streak to the Flyers. New York also put to rest a 13-game losing streak in Philadelphia which stretched as far back as a 4-2 victory on April 7, 2007. Atlantic Watch: 1/11-1/17

The Flyers won two of their three games this week, as they finished the week by handling the free-falling Minnesota Wild. After Sergei Bobrovsky earned the start on Thursday night on Long Island, Ilya Bryzgalov got the call for the last two games of the week making 46 saves on 50 shots against. Philly looks forward to a difficult week, as two of their four games are against division leaders in the Eastern Conference. The Orange and Black started off with a 3-2 in New York against the Islanders. Sean Couturier scored with 1:30 left in regulation to extend the …
