The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their fourth straight contest today in Buffalo with a 1-0 loss to the Sabres. Jhonas Enroth stopped 29 shots for his first shutout this season, while Christian Ehrhoff had the game’s lone goal in the first minute of the third period. Despite a late-game flurry by the Orange and Black, the visitors couldn’t put a single shot past Enroth to extend the game. Former Flyers G Niittymaki calls it quits

After a National Hockey League career that included 234 games played, former Flyers goaltender Antero Niittymaki officially retired from the sport on Friday. Niittymaki played seven seasons in the NHL including his first five (2003-04; 2005-09) in Philadelphia. He retired with a record of 95-86-31, five shutouts, a save percentage of .902 and a goals-against average of 2.95. The 32-year-old goalie was plucked in the 1998 draft by Philadelphia in the sixth round (168th overall). After leaving the Flyers, Niittymaki played in Tampa Bay and San Jose and after playing the 2011-12 season in the American Hockey League for Worcester …

As befits a month whose weather can’t decide whether it wants to be February or July, the Philadelphia Flyers continued their April slate by not deciding if they wanted to win or lose Thursday’s game until the final minutes of regulation. It was sped along by Claude Giroux’s double minor for high sticking, which led to Colin Greening’s game winner with 5:36 left in regulation that helped the Ottawa Senators to a 3-1 victory. The strange and wonderful hockey journey of Scott Laughton continues on Thursday, as the organization pressed the “up” button on his elevator and announced he will spend the remainder of the season with the Phantoms on an amateur tryout contract. A Flyers insider first reported the news this morning. It’s a bit of a whirlwind for the youngster, who on Monday was given a five-game suspension by the Ontario Hockey League for an illegal hit while playing for the Oshawa Generals. Grossmann out 2-3 weeks with concussion

The Season of Wither for the Flyers defense corps continues, with the revelation that Nicklas Grossmann will miss an additional 2-to-3 weeks with a concussion. The news is not new, nor has it been released by the club officially, but multiple reports have stated the case along with the updated timetable on Wednesday. Grossmann has been out since March 18 — a 4-2 road loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning — with what has been called an upper-body injury. The Philadelphia Flyers entered this week on a winning streak, but they left it on a losing skid and can now only hope they receive some help to make the postseason. The Philadelphia Flyers lost one of the biggest games in their season tonight at the Nassau Coliseum with a 4-1 defeat to the New York Islanders. Matt Moulson and John Tavares both had a goal and an assist in the win for the Isles, while Brad Boyes and Colin McDonald both recorded two-assist nights. Evgeni Nabokov registered the victory with 26 saves on 27 shots against. Steve Mason was in net tonight for the Flyers and played better than his 28 saves on 31 shots would imply. At first glace it would appear that Joe Sakic and Seth Jones have very little in common. Sakic was born in Burnaby, BC, with the sole purpose of playing ice hockey.
