Welcome to this week’s 3-on-3, where we look back at the week that was for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Orange and Black had a mini road trip to the West Coast, winning both games and gathering 4 more points, keeping them in the hunt in the Eastern Conference for a top playoff seed. A few key players made their return to the lineup, but would they return “hot” or “not”? Let’s get to this week’s 3 “hot” Flyers: The Giroux-Jagr-Harnell line — I could have just made them one through three, but I thought they deserved to be together at …
Flight Plan 12.04.2011
The Philadelphia Flyers won both ends of a back-to-back situation for the second time this season, beating both the Anaheim Ducks and the Phoenix Coyotes, and now sit just three points away from tying the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom they will face later this week, for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. With all the injuries the Flyers have taken recently, especially to their blue line, it’s great to see them able to soldier on and pick up valuable points on the road. Claude Giroux scored a goal last night, adding his 15th goal and 32nd point on the year, …
Bryzgalov Returns to Phoenix, Wins 4-2
Returning to Phoenix for the first time since testing the free-agent market and signing with Philly this past Summer, Ilya Bryzgalov handed his former teammates a 4-2 loss — saving 36 shots in the process. Claude Giroux had another game-winner as both Matt Read (who totaled three points in a four-goal first period) and Scott Hartnell provided goals on the power play. Despite being outshot 38-30, the Flyers won their second game in as many days to help Bryzgalov shut up his former Phoenix buddies. Not even twenty seconds into the game, Brayden Schenn almost gave Philly the early edge. Charging towards Mike …
Giroux Nets Winner In Overtime As Flyers Complete Huge Comeback
Trailing 3-0 midway through the second period, the Flyers stormed back to beat the Ducks 4-3 in overtime out in Anaheim tonight. Claude Giroux scored the game-winner and had an assist in the second period, while Jaromir Jagr had two goals and an assist in his return to the lineup after missing more than a week. Kimmo Timonen assisted on three scores and Danny Briere added two helpers as the Flyers enjoyed their first road win against a Western Conference team on the season. Andrew Cogliano and Teemu Selanne picked up early goals for the Ducks. Jonas Hiller held down …
Finally!
I made myself go to Barnes and Noble tonight and pick up the one copy they have of The Final Call: Hockey Stories from a Legend in Stripes by Kerry Fraser. It’s been on my list to read and review since I started here at Flyers Faithful. Unfortunately, unlike those lovely picture books I reviewed many weeks ago, this is a novel-sized book. Which means it will take time. So this week is a teaser. Because as I was waiting for my appointment, I read the first chapter entitled, “Holding On: The Final Game.” I hadn’t realized this, but Mr. …
Matt Read Fall Down
The Lulz feature was originally inspired by the lolcats site but features hockey pictures with funny, quirky, ironic or just plain mean captions. This feature should run weekly on Fridays; TGIFWL (Thank Goodness It’s Friday With Lulz).
Pronger talks post surgery
Courtesy of the Philadelphia Flyers Q: When did you have your surgery and how are you feeling? A: I had the surgery on Tuesday afternoon. I’m feeling okay just ice and elevation, trying to get the swelling out and I start my rehab tomorrow Q: Holmgren said the other day that you would be out for 4 weeks. Are you optimistic that it will be four weeks? Do you think you could be back sooner than that? A: I have no idea. Again, I had surgery two days ago, so once I start getting my rehab going, as I progress …
Atlantic Watch: 11/23-11/29
The Flyers won back-to-back games to start the week before dropping a Winter Classic preview on Saturday as they earned four out of a possible six points. Ilya Bryzgalov only saw 20 minutes of action this week stopping six out of a possible nine shots, while Sergei Bobrovsky provided a great relief appearance on Wednesday along with starting both of the weekend games. With several injuries and transactions adding the usual drama, the Flyers look to beat two Western Conference opponents in the upcoming week. To start the week off, the Flyers overcame a 3-1 deficit to hand the New …
Holmgren conference call 11/28
Q: How long have you known he’s had a knee problem? “Obviously Chris has played a long time. This has been an issue probably for the last month or so for him that’s been nagging. He’s been playing through it up until this recent bout with his virus. As I said in my statement earlier, we kind of believed that through continuing the rehabilitation that he’s been doing on that, that he does on a daily basis anyway, and some medicine, that it would start to feel better. But Chris saw the doctor yesterday and had another MRI, and we …
Rare virus, spread to knee, to keep Pronger out for one month
The Philadelphia Flyers are apparently on the forefront of a new medical breakthrough. On Monday afternoon, general manager Paul Holmgren revealed that defenseman and captain Chris Pronger, who has missed the last four games with a virus, apparently will be out of the lineup for another month following surgery on his left knee. “Chris will have surgery on his left knee tomorrow afternoon. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Peter DeLuca. The procedure will clean out some loose particles that have given Chris some problems over the last month or so,” Holmgren said. “We were hopeful that the time missed with …
