The Philadelphia Flyers extended their season-high winning streak to four games tonight with a 5-3 decision over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre. Sean Couturier and Erik Gustafsson both recorded two-assist nights, while Jay Rosehill was credited with the eventual game-winner against his former squad. Ilya Bryzgalov may have allowed three goals on 28 shots, but he and the Flyers’ defense did come up big in the third period when the Leafs surged late in the contest. The endless goaltending soap opera just got a spin-off. In their first foray into dealing ahead of the 3 PM trade deadline, the Flyers acquired Steve Mason from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Multiple reports initially stated it is for multiple draft picks, but with the club at the 50-contract limit thanks to picking up Adam Hall off waivers, another body had go to accommodate current CBA rules. It’s been a day slower than molasses in Vermont in January on trade deadline 2013, but the first move has been made by the Flyers. Adam Hall was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hall, a 32-year-old Michigan native, posted four assists in 20 games with the Bolts, after failing to record a point in six appearances with Carolina earlier in the season. A 10-year NHL veteran who played collegiate hockey for Michigan State, Hall has totaled 65 goals and 147 points in 591 NHL games for Nashville, the Rangers, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Tampa and the Hurricanes. Oliver Lauridsen experienced a sample size of professional hockey with the Adirondack Phantoms in the 2010-2011 season before spending the entire 2011-2012 campaign with the club.
