I was excited when I heard that Ilya Bryzgalov was going to be a Flyer. There was an immediate desire not to be pleased with the trading of Mike Richards to the Kings (supposedly to get the money) nor when I found out about the HUMANGOUS (had to) contract that the Flyers offered Bryzgalov to come. However, I liked the Phoenix goalie because I’d been following the Coyotes off and on since I started watching hockey. He got them into the playoffs in 2010 as far as I was concerned. For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents. The Phantoms had another strong week, as they recorded a pair of wins to extend their winning streak to four games before they lost yesterday. Although the winning streak snapped, the Phantoms still have their winning streak on the road intact, a place they have struggled all season long. Adirondack will see if they can extend that winning streak to four games this week, as they hit the road after a pair of home contests. The end of their four-game road trip wasn’t pretty for the Flyers, as their only two points came in a shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. With a pair of shutout losses, the Flyers have now been shut out five times this season. The Flyers hope two games against Eastern Conference teams below them in the standings will help them gain ground in a fight for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Phantoms lost their first game of the week, but won their last two to win back-to-back games for the first time since the middle of January. With their shootout win and one-goal victory, the Phantoms are looking for their first three-game winning streak since early December. Although they are 13th in the Eastern Conference, the Phantoms, who have two road games and one game in Adirondack over the next few days, are five points out of eighth place. After a dominant victory on Thursday against one of the hotter teams in the league, the Flyers proceeded to drop their next handful of games to suffer their first three-game losing streak of the season. Poor starts and poor goaltending hurt the Flyers over the weekend, as the only other point they gained this week was from last night’s shootout loss. With a trio of losses this week, the Adirondack Phantoms extended their losing streak to five games. Over their five-game losing streak, the Phantoms have been out scored 20-7, as the team has suffered two four-goal losses. The Phantoms hope the AHL’s All-Star break will end their misery as of late, as they have a three-game home stand over the next several days.
