Flyers-Penguins battle schedule released

The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins will renew hostilities for the third time in the last five seasons in a 4-5 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup. It has been selected by the National Hockey League as the series which officially kicks off the 2012 postseason, a full half-hour ahead of the 4-5 melee in the West — Central Division rivals Detroit and Nashville. Less than a month away, April 11th. The playoffs are coming and there’s nothing we can do to stop them. Would we even want to? Playoff hockey is the best part. Even people I know who aren’t avid hockey people, but enjoy sports, will watch playoff hockey. It’s when urgency and desperation is at its height and some of the most amazing things can happen. Here’s Simon Gagne’s goal which put the Lightning ahead by one, from yesterday’s 5-3 Tampa Bay win over Boston in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bolts won the game after trailing by a 3-0 count after the first period. Here’s Simon Gagne’s goal from May 14, 2010′s Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, a game the Flyers won by a 4-3 score. I swear there’s something familiar… Nah…we didn’t need him this year. File this one under WTF…the National Hockey League issued a two-game suspension for Flyers forward Dan Carcillo for actions between periods in Philly’s season-ending Game 4. Hard to believe it was 22 years ago today that Ron Hextall really lost it for the first time in his career.
