It pains me to say it…but Ilya Bryzgalov’s comments are hypocritical

Yesterday, Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy published the transcript of a video interview done by SovSport’s Pavel Lysenkov and KHL.RU‘s Alexander Shevchenko with Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. It pains me a little bit to be writing this because I really like Bryzgalov. All hockey related items aside, I think he is a very intelligent, likable guy, and I genuinely feel bad for the hoopla that has gone on around him in the past two years. In fact, I tweeted this yesterday  and truly mean it. I kind of want to just hang out with @bryzgoalie30 really badly. He’s a cool dude. …

Then and Now: Freddy Meyer

In May of 2003, the Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Freddy Meyer to an entry-level contract. The mobile d-man was coming off a season at Boston University where he had five goals and 16 assists in 38 games as the Terriers’ captain. During the 2003-2004 season with the Flyers’ organization, Meyer spent the majority of the campaign in the AHL with the Philadelphia Phantoms. He had the second-most goals for a blue liner on the team with 14 goals in 59 games, while John Slaney led the team with 19 goals in the same number of tilts as Meyer. The American defender also had 14 helpers, 50 PIMs, …

Five Reasons I Love the Flyers: Ladyneat

Ladyneat is a terrific photographer and dedicated Flyers fan. She is also one of the nicest people to follow on Twitter. If you do not already follow her, you should. We are grateful to have her submit her list of the five reasons she loves the Flyers. I was honored to be asked this question. I have loved the Flyers a very long time. I grew up in a neighborhood of mostly guys. They played street hockey everyday. They took on the names of the players that they loved as they played. Names like Kerr, Zezel, Poulin, & Hextall. This …

Five Reasons I Love the Flyers: frick

frick is a semi-anonymous and slightly autonomous Flyers (and Phillies, but since this is a hockey site, who cares about them?) fanatic who posts on such illustrious and exclusive sites as Twitter and the Official Flyers Message Board.  Likes pina coladas and getting caught in the rain (not really, but it sounds good) and long walks on the beach.  Has been contemplating buying a Wii for a year, but just can’t make the commitment. 1. No Number Ones… But Lots of Number Twos! The Flyers have more number two goalies than your team.  And they made it farther than your …

Five Reasons I Love the Flyers: Crane Kicker

My name is Nick. I operate Crane Kick Chronicles, which is a blog about crane kicks. It’s absurd and makes no money and no one reads it and I love it. It cures my boredom and I find it hilarious that people are actually sending me crane kicks from around the world. I also have a cult following of high school girls on Twitter. I also love the Flyers and Philadelphia sports in general. I used to cover sports for a wire service and some local newspapers out of college. I still enjoy writing, so when I was approached for …
