The week opened up roughly, but it ended smoothly as the Flyers seem to be moving towards playing better after a 5-1 win at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. Giving up 14 goals in back-to-back nights, the Flyers lost in inexplicable fashion to two currently horrendous teams, who are both experiencing difficulties in play and personnel. Rebounding back from those two horrific losses, the Flyers spanked Carolina with both Danny Briere and Chris Pronger out of the lineup. The Flyers began the real Halloween horror show by suffering a 5-1 defeat in Montreal last Wednesday, giving the lowly Habs their first road win …
JVR’s Hat-Trick Leads Flyers To 100 Points
James van Riemsdyk helped the Flyers end a two-game skid tonight by recording his first career hat-trick as Philly rolled to a 4-1 win over the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. In addition to JVR’s three-goal night, both Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux had two points on Saturday. Scoring the opening goal, Carter assisted on JVR’s hat-trick tally in the third while Giroux posted two assists. Sergei Bobrovsky notched his second straight one-goal game, saving 36 of 37 on the night. The win pushed the Flyers over the 100-point mark on the season as their record sits at 45-19-10. The Orange and Black head home Sunday to face Northeast-leading Boston …
RICE & MICE: Five for fighting and 6-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain
First overall selection in the 2010 entry draft and Edmonton Oilers’ star rookie, Taylor Hall, saw his season come to an end much earlier than the rest of his NHL counterparts. It isn’t over because of a dismal season that saw the Oilers miss the playoffs. Hall is out for the remainder of the season with a high ankle sprain. He wasn’t battling along the boards or crashing the net when he was injured. Hall was injured while falling awkwardly in a fight with the Blue Jackets’ Derek Dorsett. Reactions to Hall’s injury have ranged from applauding the young talent …
The morning after: Islanders @ Flyers 10.30.10
“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. I think of the Islanders as a measuring stick for your team. Meaning if your team loses to the Islanders, they suck and will end up being moved to Las Vegas. If your team wins, then they get two points. Good deal, huh? This was the Flyers Halloween game, and there were some frightful things going on in this game. Chief among them: Rick DiPietro’s pads (although for a good cause) and, oh yeah, his play. I …
Flight Plan: Week of 10.24.2010
Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. After winning their home opener, the Philadelphia Flyers were absolutely abysmal in two of the three losses against teams that had played the night before. The Flyers lost in regulation against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Anaheim Ducks before exploding offensively on Saturday night against a team off to one of the hottest starts in the league in the Toronto Maple Leafs who they beat 5-2. Mike Richards notched his first …
